we have had our Lhasa apso puppy a week now,i plan to feed james wellbeloved dried but as he was still finding it difficult to eat have been giving him wet food as main and bits of the kibble as training treats, not a lot
he came to us on butchers, but was not wolfing that down,i had a pack of natures diet, gave a small amount he ate a couple of mouthfuls, then i realised it smelt really bad (like poo! sorry for tmi)
I chucked that out and have brought jwb wet and wainwrights puppy pouches.
i have been mixing in wainwrights at mo but nothing seems to excite him, he eats a teaspoon full and thats it.
i know he is only a small dog and he has put on weight and will be weighed again when he goes for his 2nd lot of jabs, but is this small amount normal?
i did try the dried food with hot water on but he totally ignored that!
all other ways he is a normal lively puppy, with normal poo ect

My friend has two small dogs and they graze all day (literally eat one morsel now and gain), I wouldnt stress otherwise he will pick up on your stress and a vicious cycle will follow. I would put out the recommended amount of JWB dry or whatever else you are using then perhaps in the evening put 1/2 teaspoons of wetfood out. If he doesnt eat it after 10 mins then chuck it. If you start pandering to it then you make a rod for your own back. This is assuming he is well and healthy with no medical issues.
I am sure he will eat soon as dogs do not starve themselves.0 -
we have an 8 month old labrador and he was really fussy at the start. Now he is great with food. We worried at the start but the vet told us that a dog would never go hungry if there was food on offer. If he was really hungry, he would eat anything we gave him.
Alternatively, try spicing it up a bit. Stig loves cream cheese or grated cheese on top. Alternatively, you can buy packs of frozon beef in pets at home. Microwave a tiny bit in some water and add it all. It will coat the kibble in tasty beef water.0 -
Congratulations on becoming the owner of the worlds most wonderful breed of dog!! Not that I'm biased or anything but I have one and she's my best friend in all the world. Jealous really!!0

Hi,
If he still has his puppy teeth you should be turning his food to mush for now. I have a 9 week old who gets JWB puppy kibble. I put a whole day suppy in a jug fill it with hot water let it turn soft and cool down and then i just put a portion in his bowl at feeding time. My other lab Molly is on JWB adult complete dry but even she likes a bit of warm water in it, not to make it soft but it tends to give it a nice meaty food smell and she wolfs it down if i leave it dry she won't touch it.
