Default notices arriving in the post for Landlord

If debt collectors turn up, send them to the agent's office.0

If there was consent to let such that the landlord was free to change the address the lender uses he'd be better advised to use the address of a friend or relative or even his agent if the lender won't send letters abroad. Having important correspondence go to the tenants isn't a great idea as the landlord cannot be sure of that will happen to the letters. Did he leave a request of what to do with them, clearly a tenant can't be expected to send on abroad, usually the request is to give them to the agent, or I'd be tempted to mark as no longer living at this address and return to sender by just shoving them back in the post. Really the landlord should not be operating his accounts from what is now your home address which giving the letters to the agent for forwarding would allow him to do.
Don't forget to read any letters addressed to the occupier as that's likely how any notices from the lender will be.0 -
I've been putting them back in the post but it's still a ridiculous amount that we receive so just recently having had such a bad experience with our first landlord I decided to open some of them and surprise surprise money owed all over the place..If there was consent to let such that the landlord was free to change the address the lender uses he'd be better advised to use the address of a friend or relative or even his agent if the lender won't send letters abroad. We were told when we moved in that a member of the landlords family would call round to collect the post but this hasn't happened and to be honest neither should it, as you say this is now my home and I shouldn't be getting their post, they've been gone over three years so obviously have no intention of sorting out there affairs, from what the neighbours have said they don't intent to return to the UK, she's Australian and has 'gone home'. Didn't sell the house I assume as they bought at the top of the market but the have an interest only mortgage which is £400 a month and I pay them £750 so there's no point selling unless of course they decide to let the bank take it at some point in the future..
Judging by the letters I've opened their credit is destroyed anyway so a repossessed house won't make much difference if they ever do come back.
I'm surprised the previous tenant put up with it but then again we get his post still too, got a brand new credit card in the post for him the other day with a £10,000 limit.
I'm amazed with peoples stupidity. :eek:0 -
If the amount of post is really huge I would take it to the Letting Agents once a week or so.0

Agree - and get the letting agents to print you out a load of sticky address lables - addressed to their office, of course. Then just put everything back in the post redirected to agent. Or insist they collect it once a week at your convenience.
Anything that comes through the post and might concern your security of tenure I believe is your businees - so many tenants these days have found themselves in a difficult position when it turns out landlord has not kept up with mortgage payments, and if repo proceedings look likely it's important to let the lender know you're in the property as tenants.0 -
But handing the letters to the LL's family or agent would allow the LL to go on using the OP's home address for credit cards etc. Really not great for the OP when there are so many debts being run up, he doesn't want them run up from his home address whist he is there! Assuming that is that it's all really the landlord's mail and not the previous tenant using the landlord's name which could be easily done if they got hold of the LL's post :eek:0
