Terrible handset, terrible service - any bright ones?!
Hi,
I have a Nokia 6280 on a Three contract (four months remaining on 12 months). The handset has proved to be truly terrible and is not fit for purpose. The thing runs out of battery after 15 hours standby and if I make calls totalling 30-40 minutes during the day, the battery dies on me there and then.
I phoned Three to tell them the handset I'd chosen is not fit for purpose. Their only solution is a) try my battery in someone else's phone (I don't know anyone to try this out and, even if I did, I don't see why I should!) b) get a new charger (which I've done so this wasn't a valid suggestion) or c) lose my phone (a work phone) for 72 hours while they send it away, determine if it's faulty and repair/replace it.
I'm sure it's the model and not just my handset as internet forums cite countless battery problems with this phone. Ideally, I want to get a new model of phone from Three but their customer service centre is notoriously a customer screening centre; you can't talk to anyone who's not reading off a script!
Any ideas? I'm toying with the idea of losing my phone for the 72 hours in the hope they replace it with a new one. Then I figure, because I'm sure it's a poor phone model rather than my current handset, I might get a new contract with Orange, get a spanking new Sony K800i (which I read are great) and sell my new, replacement 6280 on eBay to recoup some of the cost of terminating my Three contract early (£120).
Good idea? Be interested in any thoughts or reports of how you dealt with similar experiences.
Cheers,
Mauvy.

Seems a bit drastic wanting to terminate a contract 4 months early just for the sakes of a inefficient battery.
Why not just buy a new battery from ebay for a few quid?0 -
i am in the same position as you!
i signed up to a 3 contract for the Nokia 6280 - worst decision ive ever made!
thankfully it was a 12 month free line rental! Still regret it!!!
ive had at least 4 phones with it being sent away many a times!
i have heard that if you complain enough times and have it sent away enough times they will crack and give u another phone!
(mines being sent away on tues fingers crossed ill get another phone)
i guess you could start looking for new contracts for more reliable networks/phones. i will never buy another phone cause it looks nice!!!
you could try bug the 3 cs guy enough to get you a new model!

If only life was that simple. From what I can gather (and as you can see from another testimony posted as a reply on this thread) it ain't the battery, it's the model itself - see 'Nokia 6280 battery problems' on Google and you'll find an epic account.
It might seem a drastic move but if all I get is a fresh handset that gives the same poor battery performance as this one, the next four months business/personal phone calls are going to be impeded like they have been for eight months.
What I can't stand is that, despite the fact they must now know they've been issuing a flawed Nokia model to their customers, they won't admit it and graciously give me a different model to solve all the problems. They just go off script all the time and all you can do is go through the motions of the 72 hour turnaround to get a new 6280.
Frustrating as hell and if I can recoup the value of the early contract termination by selling the replacement on eBay, then it gets me away from Three and away from the 6280!!0 -
I have the nokia 6280 and also my sister has one both taken out the same time, I had buttons stick on the side so I couldn't turn the volume up or down I think i'd squashed when it was in my pocket while driving but still phoned up three they arranged a courier to collect it as I don't live near a repair centre, my sisters phone has just broken so she took it to the Nokia repair centre in Birkenhead on the Wirral and they fixed it free of charge, We always get Nokia phones as they get a years manufacturers gaurantee, I don't know exactly what this covers (see link below) but it's handy to be able to walk into a repair centre and they stick it on their machine and tell you what exactly is wrong and if it can't be repaired due to a Nokia problem they will replace the phone, fix it free if a fault or if your fault they will fix it for a fee but at least you'll know.
from the nokia site;-
Save some time and effort. Before bringing your Nokia phone in to a Nokia service centre, take a moment to verify that repair is necessary.
As of April 1, 2005, Nokia products purchased in the European Union, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and Turkey are covered by the European Limited
warranty.

I had problems with the 6280 (rebooting mid-call, so much dust under the screen you couldn't read it. Even now after repair it won't last more that about 20 minutes without dropping a call, the signal just dissapears, then comes back). One of the things that bugs the most about 3 is that as i bought mine direct from 3 I cant use the shops, they won't help becasue they didnt sell it.
When I called up to get it fixed and told the person I was in Oxford (Oxfordshire) she helpfully replied 'there is one very close', hmm, that very close was Oxford Street in London.
Suffice to say i've moving network.0
