Free Wi-Fi from O2 across the UK (not just for iPhones and and O2 customers!)

O2 started this in January, but it's now spreading across the UK (http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/12863791) - could be a good time to get a mobile with internet access, or maybe even consider whether you still need to be paying for your data?
Fast Wi-Fi, that's free. For all.
We're launching a hotspot network called O2 Wifi. It's free. And you don't even have to be an O2 customer to use it.
Even if your mobile’s with another network or you get your home broadband from someone else, everyone’s welcome.
What you get
Our Wi-Fi will give you speeds up to ten times faster than a normal mobile connection. So it’ll be as good for YouTube as it is for email. It'll be simple and safe to use.
Once you've signed-up, that's it. No passwords or usernames to connect. And it won't eat into your mobile's data allowance. Just quick Wi-Fi, whenever you're near one of our hotspots.
Where you'll be able to get it
By the end of the year we'll have set up thousands of hotspots. And by 2013, we'll have 14,000 hotspots across the UK – double the number any of our competitors offer now.
You’ll be able to use our Wi-Fi in shops, cafes and bars. Then train stations, airports, shopping centres, libraries, parks and stadiums.

Check your local area - and maybe let us know where you get a good signal? This is not just for iPhones, and you don't need to be an O2 customer.

This is what you''l probably need to do:
Sign up for the account. You will then be given credentials and then you will need to search for the wifi on your phone. Connect to the network and then your phone will automatically connect to the wifi whenever it is in a hotspot. Best check if there are any around where you live first else it's pointless untill they cover your area.0 -
there's instructions for setting up wifi on the iphone on the o2 page in the link posted above0

I have an O2 PAYG dongle for emergency Internet access... dire speeds. Dire. Absolutely dire. It is so slow it's unusable.
I've never seen an iPhone and don't understand them... would I be able to try this out using my dongle?
Edit: reading it it won't be of use to me, I'm rarely in those sorts of places... but I do plan on finding out about these phone thingies in the next 12-18 months (maybe even buying one), so who knows...0 -
Just to clarify - you don't need an iPhone for access, and you don't need to be an O2 customer.
