Mobile broadband ?

What do you think of it ? I am using a 3 mobile broadband dongle and I think it's awful, I have had it for six months and I use it all over the south of the UK as well as at home and it gives me poor speeds in most places and when I get a good speed it is very erratic.

I have also found it pretty rubbish. Maybe it is because it is ten years since the G3 licenses were auctioned to such fanfare. In the meantime broadband has got faster and faster so the mobile G3 offering seems slow in comparison. The government is now selling G4 licenses which it is said will offer a comparable service to today's domestic broadband.
  • I have been using it for around 2 1/2 years, and am very happy with it. I am lucky in that I am usually upstairs near a window; I also use the long lead.

It is best early in the day, but has definitely improved since 3 did some network upgrades.

How long is your lead ?
  • One is 32 inches, one is 29 inches. Another benefit is that it helps to stop the dongle overheating.

I have noticed my dongle overheats even with the 4" extension lead supplied with it, I will try a longer lead.
  • I have used three dongles: one burnt out and that was when I learned that they are best used on a cable; the other two are still going strong.

I should have said that I am in the centre of a big city, which helps to get a good connection. But I have used it at the seaside, in parks, on trains etc. I am a very satisfied customer, perhaps because I don't watch films, play games or download music. It is much faster than the free WiFi I sometimes use in my library.

Always been the thing with 3 - when it's good it's very good, when it's not so good it's bleedin awful. I found O2 was much slower, but more consistent in client offices.

I have been using the 3 mifi for the last 3-4 months and I am very pleased with it and getting better speeds than I would with BT/Sky.
The only downer is having to watch how much data I use.
