Playground games banned at Primary school

I was still playing bulldog in the late eighties/early nineties at school, but then we also had proper stilts and did stilt races on sports day. Perhaps my school didn't care much for health and safety...
Perhaps teachers dont have time to fill in the incident book for every bumped head and grazed knee that would result from such games. My girl got three entries last week alone for such minor scuffs. Sad they have to waste so much time pushing paper.Debt free as of July 2010 :j

I used to run an afterschool club, what time is it Mr Wolf and oranges and lemons are very babyish games for year 6, they will tell you themselves. I AM concentrating on what games they can play and I think its a shame they cant play the more active games. Am I the only one here, that thinks this? I have already stated they arent allowed any balls at all.
Bulldogs was banned when I was at school after someone broke their arm.
We used to play touch all the time and although it could get rough that's part of growing up surely?
I don't understand why balls are banned though (coming from someone who had her nose broken with a cricket ball in school)? Most of the games we played in primary school involved some sort of ball.:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0 -
We've had exactly the same at my son's school recently. It's got SO ridiculous that the children are not allowed to play ANY running games in the morning before school...they are encouraged to stand and 'share their news' - I've given up now!!!!
They are allowed to play football, play running games at playtimes/dinnertime etc....
Oh..and they've removed all the bins from the playground and are going to see how much rubbish gets dropped in the playground!! They then might consider bringing them back. ???????? As I've said..I've given up...did go into school to talk about the running issue...but it all got out of hand so won't be doing that again!!20p Saver Club #33 60p/£100

I dont see how any kid is going to get out in the real world and know how to cope. They are so flaming molly-coddled nowadays at schools. Bring back some common sense.0

I'm very surprised to read some of the posts on this thread. No running around, no games, not even balls to play with ... no surprise that kids are getting obese and unfit !?0

... ladders is allegedly banned - but i still let them play it0

I run at playground games club for half an hour everyday at my school so hope they don't get banned as I would loose hours. I am employed to run the games and encouraged certain children to join in (obviously all the children can play but we target certain SEN ones)
I do agree the children do get over excited at times and almost everyday someone will fall, trip or bump into each other but nothing serious and isn't that part of growing up?
our favourites are - Chinese football (you push the ball with your hands and score through peoples legs)
Wink murder
Crocodiles ( this is essentially british bull dog I now realise)

When we used to play out at home we used to play a game called 'hard run-outs', which was really violent! It was like 'hide and seek had' where you'd split into 2 teams: one team would hide, and one team was on 'it' guarding a central post. The aim of the hiding team was to get home and the aim of the guarding team was to prevent you getting home by beating you up! What madness! This'd have been in the mid 90s.0

I found out today from my daughter who is in year 6 at Primary that playground games such as bulldog, manhunt and touch have been banned as they get out of hand!
Do most Primary schools have this type of rule? I just cant see why such traditional games should be such a problem. What else are the kids to do, they arent allowed a ball either!
I remember bulldog being banned at my primary school - 30-odd years ago!! It can be a really rough game - it was finally banned at my school when kids' school uniforms were getting ripped while playing it.
the kids at my DD's primary school are allowed to play football with a ball (well the older ones are) and the younger ones have a trimtrack/wooden swing/log apparatus in their playground. I think the older girls, who don't want to play football, just hang out and gossip (my DD included).0
