What is (or was) bulldog?
A game.:D
If memory serves it was a group game of tag but played on a pitch (in our case netball/five-a-side) and 'it' would stand in the middle while everyone else ran from one side to the other, and whoever 'it' caught would also become 'it', until one was left and then they were 'it' for the next game. It was all very fun and no one died.0 -
My son's primary school has playground equipment, an area for older children to play football, willow tunnels, painted areas such as hopsccotch and an alphabet snake, etc - they're very lucky.
Instead of concentrating on what games the children are not allowed to play, why not find out about the things they can play? Are skipping ropes allowed? Can soft balls be used (maybe foam balls)? Cat's cradle? If no equipment is allowed, what about games such as Oranges and Lemons, Princess, What time is it Mr Wolf? or In and out those dusty bluebells? Clapping games were popular when I was at school, and several of my Brownies play them when they finish an activity early.0 -
...I was asking my daughter if she ever played leapfrog at school, she said she did once but then it was banned. My heart sank a little, but I also understand they are worried about the kids getting hurt. British Bulldogs was banned for us around the 80's I think. That game frightened the crap out of me
. There was also a game which was all the rage called "all pile on" - we played it at youth club - how we survived I don't know.

Ahh, I have confused two games. What I thought was bulldog is actually dodgeball. Sorry!“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

Just to join in, bulldog was banned when I was at school back in the 80's.0

I used to run an afterschool club, what time is it Mr Wolf and oranges and lemons are very babyish games for year 6, they will tell you themselves. I AM concentrating on what games they can play and I think its a shame they cant play the more active games. Am I the only one here, that thinks this? I have already stated they arent allowed any balls at all.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -
shouldn't year 6 be smoking behind the bike sheds, snogging and stealing dinner money in training for highschool rather than playing gamesPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

I agree that it is a shame that they can't play more active games. I also agree that What time is it Mr Wolf is too babyish, but I was just trying to give an idea of some possibilities. After all, you did ask what else were the children supposed to do, so I made a few suggestions.
My brownies are aged 7-10, and they hadn't heard of Oranges and Lemons until we played it last week - they loved it.0
