    I had a similar issue to day due to a DD mix up, however in my case they paid the DD but charged me £50 for the privilege.

    After a bit of ear bending the branch manager agreed to refunded £25 as goodwill and I will recover the rest from the company who messed up the DD. I could have recovered the full £50 from the other company so YB has gone up in my estimation today despite being initially really hacked off about the situation.

    Now admittedly they haven't done it yet but my experience this afternoon is that the managers at least do have discretion at their disposal.

    Sorry, just to clarify, I dont work for YB but another institution.
