I would want to know on what grounds i had failed such a check and what the check was for .

Are you flagged up somewhere as a danger.
Not that I know of. I use my debit card occasionally for retail and online shopping and have bought from CPW before many times with no problems.
There is no credit check (or any that I was informed about) because it was a PAYG phone with credit, not a contract (which I already have two of).0 -
That doesn't seem fair. The money is taken immediately from my account by the seller, who then cancels the order and I then have to wait 5 days to get my own money back.
Why don't CPW carry out these "security checks" BEFORE they take payment? It's no use to the buyer afterwards as they've had the money taken.
You are confusing the authorisation hold with them taking the money. See the link above.0 -
To be fair, this makes no difference to the OP. He lost access to his money for several days and this was CPW's fault.0

I can't seem to make a complaint unless I'm a customer!
I've tried the online form (I don't have an account so can't pass 'security' to make sure i'm the account holder) and the telephone (which only gives a few options and none are about an order).0 -
Failed because:
1) You put the wrong Cardholders Name, Billing Address/Postcode or Security Code in when ordering.
And/Or:
2) CPW operates a box breaking policy where you can only order x amount of handaets in x amount of months (i think its two or three every six months tops) to stop people buying them in bulk and selling them on.David
£1 of debt is too much for me!0 -

Nope, none of that.
I put the correct details in. That's why the bank authorised the payment.
I haven't ordered from them for over a year and this time it was 1 handset.0 -
I've ordered again today and it's gone through, exactly same card and details and second payment taken!! I got a confirmation text and email saying item has been dispatched and they've given a DHL tracking number.
No refund yet of the first payment made yesterday. The bank blame CPW for not 'voiding' the payment when they cancelled the order.0
