Personalised Number Plate

Not the brightest when it comes to this being first time...I want to buy the girlfriend a personalised plate in time for xmas. I have found the one I want, however I am baffled by all the different prices. I went to dvla reg web page and its £245 plus an £80 charge. I came across another website and it was £179 plus vat with a £60 transfer charge. Any ideas why the same plate is different prices on different sites? Also what other charges have I got to watch out for?

The DVLA run auctions for personalised number plates, which is where we got ours, so the price depends on the number of people wanting it. Some of them went for as little as £200 and one of them went for £25000. The one thing we weren't prepared for was that VAT was added when we went to pay for it. Then there are extra charges for transfering the new plate to your car. It works out quite expensive by the time you've finished.

I know somebody with a personal plate which became part of the settlement in their divorce case - kind of, you have the kids and the dog, I want the number plate :rotfl:

Sorry, I haven't helped much, but be prepared to pay quite a bit overall!

Take care when selecting the number plate of your choice - you will find that a lot of the companies that advertise number plates for purchase dont actually have them. They are aware that the number plate is available from DVLA and when you say you want to buy it they buy it from DVLA and add their premium !
Allways check through the official DVLA site before you buy.

DVLA's prices include VAT and the £80 assignment fee. This means there is nothing else to pay except for the costs of having the actual physical plates made up. NO HIDDEN CHARGES!

I can only agree with what-a-save.

Definitely go via DVLA. All the other companies are just chancers, at least when an unreleased plate is involved.

Don' forget the car must be newer than the plate.

I used to have a very nice brand new car, I changed this for a runabout shed & have had to have the plate on retention for the last 3 years, at £25 a year (plus you pay the transfer fee on top the 1st payment - about £80).

I bought my wifes from Regtransfers.co.uk (sorry, don't know how to add the link!).
These are really really good, many celebs have bought from them. They are definately CHEAPER than the DVLA.
If you find your plate on their site, make them an offer for a slight discount. They advocate you do this.
Well worth a look. And they WONT BE BEATEN ON PRICE!

defo buy it frm dvla, bought 3 so far and been cheapest than all other places like newreg.

buy from the DVLA...cuts out the middleman, and the whole process is simple...choose number, pay, receive certificate, get number plates made (remember to take some ID, take your MOT, V5 and insurance up local Motor Tax Office and will be done by next day.
