Stealing a Cat??!!

Hi all
We've just bought a new house and are currently renovating it so only their evenings and weekends at the mo. Everytime we are there, a cat is coming into the house or waiting at the door for us! she's lovely and I would be happy to adopt her but don't want to steal someone elses cat!!
Have spoken to the neighbours, no one knows who she belongs to, and didn't live with the previous owners.
She's super super friendly and calm, but doesn't look under fed or ill in anyway so she must belong to someone!!
Any one else had this situation?!
xx

Are you feeding the cat?
I'm guessing if the cat isnt under fed then she has a home.
If you are feeding the cat then stop this - She'll eventually wander home soon enough0 -
Might be an idea to see if the vet will scan her to see if she is chipped?£2 Savers Club 2011 (putting towards a deposit

Cats generally go wandering around getting fed by half the neighbourhood!
I used to run a pet shop and owners were always complaining that their cats on a diet were not losing any wieght....of course, all the cat was doing was wandering around getting fed elsewhere

If she's in good condition it sounds like she has a home so you shouldn't feed her, but on the other hand she could be a resourceful stray with many homes!
You could pop a paper collar on her asking the owners to contact you, somthing like 'If this is your cat pls ring on XXXX' - not trying to steal her just worried in case she is homeless/lost'. That way if she does have owners they won't get all defensive wondering why you have put a collar on their cat and will be more likely to contact you.0 -
It is worth knowing that far more people claim to have a cat than there are cats!
Paper collar is a good idea.If you found this post useful please will you click "thank you"? It cheers me up. :j0 -

I'm guilty of nicking a cat..... Many years ago and it was kept in inhumane conditions, only being fed once a week and shut in a tiny shed 24/7. Only a baby too. So I went down one night, opened the door and had him away. Dear little soul....
I wouldnt have done it if he was loved and looked after. We have a yard cat who looks like he's fed by the whole village. Wouldnt take him in a million years, he's really happy....:oMFW 2011 No. 161 £946.54/£2000 TargetApril 9/15

oops, meant to put some serious advice on. Like others have said, a paper collar might be a good idea (or one of those plastic key fobs you can write in - we got one of those when Dave was stealing a neighboring cats dinner). If kitty is in good condition it is quite likely that he has a regular home although cats are pretty good at looking after themselves so its not always proof positiveProud of who, and what, I am. :female::male::cool:0
