O2 data package - interesting coincidence??

Or not!!

I'm on the iphone contract that now has a 500mb cap on data (grr!!!).

Never had an issues with the amount since it became capped until Monday got a warning txt yesterday saying I'd used 80% of my data- no problem thought I, that's 4/5 of a month of data and I'm 5 days from the end of my payment month- that should be fine.....

BUT yesterday I got the "you have used ALL your data" txt and that unless I buy more data I'll be slowed up till the end of the month.

Not sure how they reckon I used 1/5 of my data allowance in an ordinary day (emails, some browsing, no streaming- infact I streamed 20mins radio in the month IIRC as I was away from home).

Checked "my O2" . Still showing I have 80mb left.

SO even though my rate of use hasn't changed and the 80mb should last fine to the end of the month I'm being speed capped:mad::mad::mad::mad:

Going to call em later when I feel strong but I can see this is going to be a total pain and no doubt it's "in the small print" somewhere so I can't get out of contract for it, but when what I started off with was "unlimited" (all be it a "promotional tariff") to have my internet strangled for the last 5 days each month (that, if we are talking stats being 20% of the month and the last 20% of the data allowance) I shall be mighty peeved!!!

I think that if you really started with 'unlimited' you have to stay on 'unlimited' or have a right to cancel.

ETA: unless it was a short-time promotion and it wasn't 'unlimited' in the contract.

Unfortunately it was a "promotional tariff" unlike my 3G iphone tarriff that was ending. The only way, as ever , to upgrade was to accept the new deal (and the itunes "upgrade" that was sent out just before iphone 4 launch effectively crippled the 3G speedwise with no possibility of reversing it:mad: so keeping it wasn't an option- I did persist for a month beyond contract expiry).

Gosh!, just looking at my O2 page, billing runs per calender month, I have used 40.76mb this month end tomorrow, now I have worldmate updating twice per day, my satnav uses the handset as a modem to retrieve traffic updates every 15 mins, use the old facebook and email plus other web browsing, when connected to my netbook the usage goes up but not to alert any FUP, saying that I'm on the original before june2009 tariff :j

I phoned up to complain and say I had been given unlimited at the beginning I expect it to stay that way and I got the response that they are allowed to change the tariff whenever and how ever they like!! As they changed it half way through a 2 year contract!

OP - try using wi-fi when ever you can, I know if your with BT and have an account you can access their Wi-fi hotspots free of charge I believe

As usually they were talking rubbish. They are allowed to change. You are allowed to cancel if they change to your disadvantage.

All post June 2010 contracts with O2 had unlimited data as a promotion until the end of september, clearly stated on all the adverts and booklets :/ the tariff itself would have 500mb.

And if you do call CS please dont kick off! It's not their fault and they won't know you even exist until you call them, please be calm and polite with them, it was probably a minor error in the billing system or something, and they are much more helpfull if you are friendly trust me :)

Think of it this way, if I walked up to you shouting and demanding things would you want to help me as much if I said "Excuse me, wheres the nearest ATM" or "HEY YOU, WHERES THE NEAREST F*"£$%G CASH POINT"

    :p
