sms from pc ?

Can anyone advise the best way to do this. I work abroad a lot and want to send an occasional text to someone in the UK advising my return details (what time to meet me at the airport etc). I quite often find my UK pay as you go phone will not reach the UK. I work all day with a PC with internet access so it would be nice to be able to send the message from my PC. And maybe be able to collect a reply ?

Is your mobile "Sim-Free?" - Ours is & when abroad we buy a local sim card & use that for text messages which works fine. We also keep in contact with people at home using both Twitter & Facebook using the mobile or sometimes the netbook which we also take. We actually prefer using Twitter and we've never had a messaging problem whilst abroad. :j

Yes I have tried a local sim card and have still had problems reaching a UK mobile (I am outside Europe and 00 44 prefix does not seem to work here). As I use a pc all day it would be much more convenient if I could send my messages from my pc via internet or email.

Some websites offer ''free'' texts and I used one this morning. I will phone later (from office land line) to see if the text arrived safely.

I have just checked and the free text I sent earlier via this site has arrived safely.

    http://www.cbfsms.com/

So that's a useful option for sending the occasional free message from abroad to a mobile in the UK. Message is limited to 140 characters which is just about sufficient.:j

On mobile networks you can use the symbol "+" instead of the international access code for the country you are phoning from.

So instead of dialling 00441234567890 from a mobile you can dial +441234567890
