MSE NEWS: John Lewis launches never-ending refunds

I bought a shirt for my husband at xmas, which did not fit. I still have the receipt, but I had taken the tags off and washed the shirt before we realised it didn't fit.
Will I be able to get a refund?0 -
I don't understand how it could be used as a "rental" system. Surely you still need to keep the tags in, and so can't wash the item? So the only advantage is that if you want to wear it to an event, you have longer to return it than you do now??? I'm suprised that the concessions such as Warehouse & Oasis would buy into this - as their fashion trends are short lived - so once an item is returned, they may not be able to re-sell.
The advantage for me will be knowing that I can return the item if it goes into the sale. If I have a big event, such as a wedding coming up, I always end up leaving buying a new dress until the last minute - just in case it gets reduced! Now, I can buy months in advance, keep an eye on it in store, and return for a full refund if it goes in the sale, then re-buy at the cheaper price.
Will also be very useful leading up to Christmas!Virtual Sealed Pot Challenge #148 - £59.93

No, I wouldn't imagine so. And why on earth would you wash a shirt BEFORE wearing it for the first time????Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

Similarly, I always wash new sheets and duvet covers before using them. And I would NEVER wear new pants without washing them first! :rotfl:0 -
I always wash new clothes before wearing them (well, not all clothes - I wouldn't wash jumpers and cardigans). I don't like the 'new clothes smell', I don't like the thought of all the chemicals on the clothes, and the idea of other people touching the items in the shop before me, sneezing on them etc!

Whatever floats your boat, I guess. But you cannot honestly expect to return the shirt for a refund after washing it (in a chemical solution, might I add).Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

I'm just saying it's not unusual for people to wash stuff before wearing it.

Oh, I wasn't saying the OP should have the right to return the shirt - I agree with you, they shouldn't.

I've never heard of it before, but I'm sure you're right! It's totally up to each individual, but surely the husband should try it on before it's washed? Otherwise they forfeit their right to a refund (unless it's faulty, not fit for purpose blah blah) for the sake of a few germs!
