Jase- they're not speeding, but driving the wrong way down a sliproad- lucky nobody was injured.skiddlydiddly wrote: »Noone speeding, just a muppet car driver trying to enter an A road from the exit slip by the looks of it and causing the crash.
Yup -- I'm aware of that
Sorry, I really shouldn't be making light of a potentially deadly mistake. I'm just pleased no-one was hurt.0 -
I got your joke, Jase. It's actually a serious point since 10 years of only focussing on speed as the be-all and end-all of road safety means that people like this don't get caught and told off earlier in their driving careers.
Oh and the driver of the lorry that overturned was pretty badly injured according to the comments in that video. The Corsa driver was uninsured and was apparently sat there texting everybody after the accident (and quite possibly was doing the same immediately before the accident too!)
In any case, I guess I've disproven my own argument. People like this are why we can't have any innovative new measures like left turn on red, or flashing amber at night. I still say we need to either re-educate them or remove them from the roads.
I guess I'm fortunate enough to have started driving when there were still police around. I've made my fair share of mistakes and had one or two bollockings from the police when I was younger. I learned from them. These days the only mistake you get pulled upon is the mistake of not constantly staring at your speedo, which you find out about a week later when the circumstances are no-longer in your mind.0 -
If true, that is disgraceful. The Corsa driver should be tried to the fullest extent of the law, and assuming she is found guilty and there are no mitigating circumstances, she should stand to pay back every penny of the damage she has caused, both physical and medical. If that means she has 50% of her pay taken away from her for the next 20 years, so be it. Something needs to be done about these uncaring, reckless drivers who don't insure themselves and have no sense of responsibility. That has actually made me pretty angry, to think that that poor lorry driver would probably have been blamed if the camera hadn't been installed, and possibly wouldn't have survived, or caused carnage, if he hadn't taken the action he did.
I wonder if we are heading for the day when all vehicles are mandated to have cameras installed? That might hopefully have the effect of making sure that the loons actually take the blame for some of the stupid things they do.0 -

Only a matter of time.

All I can think of is the elder generation getting confused and dithering about before or half way across junctions, while Mr I ownztheroadeveryoneelsesucksandIhaveanimportantbusinessmeetinginthemorning300milesawaywhereIdoimportantbusiness in his Vectra with his shirts hanging in the back, is gonna come tanking through without any caution at all..... And how would that type of accident go on the insurance????
EFA :rotfl::rotfl:
I think turning them off altogether at quiet junctions is better - flashing amber would confuse.0 -
