Just an idea - if you put pizza on the menu you can put few different ones and have the same base and different topping on... like ham, pineapple, mushrooms, cheese, chicken... It will make it look more authentic (ie they actually have a choice) and all the ingrediences they don't pick can be eaten by family, it is not like they are not ingrediences that are not staple of a fridge contents anyway...

Picked him up from school today and gave him some of your suggestions and he is SO excited about them!!! Bless him,

Loving the idea of balloons on chairs and gifts at the table instead of party bags:j

    I REALLY DISLIKE PARTY BAGS!!!!!!!:p

I'm going to have a hunt about for table decs in the £ shop as for a menu he'd like dips and soup and meatballs and chicken nuggets and potato and mushrooms and chips please!!!:rotfl:

Then he'd like to go the the country park and have ice cream or ice lollies!

I'm beginning to get into this now!!!!!!

I hate party bags too! wasnt doing them this year, but my cousin was in america and got us scooby doo invites, thank you cards, plates, cups, napkins and party bags.. so i am using them, as i hate waste, but i wount be filling them with toys etc.. i will be making them up 30 mins before end of party and giving away all the cakes and fruit that will be left over.

For the dips, you could make cheese straws/bread sticks and put in a tall glass/cup
slice carrots into sticks, celery, pepers
make 'crisps' with parsnips, carrots, sweet potato. just slice to £1 thickness or less, put in a sandwich bag, add flavour, shake, add 1 teaspoon of oil, shake then pour onto baking tray and cook for upto £15 mins (if thin slices it will be less time)
flavour - salt n peper, salt an vinegar, paprika, lemon n thyme..

the pizza would be good too, but let them decorate themselves... put all teh toppings in different bowls and if u have a spare table that can be used like a buffet table, get them to go make their owna dn get ur 'staff' to take the pizzas in to be cooked... change the table for desert

if u can get some grenadine it makes great 'cocktails' its just a syrup, i add it to lemonade for instant cocktail for my 3year old.

    deserts - make layere jelly,
    ice cream n jelly
have it like pizza huts ice cream table - loads of toppings for tehm to add... have a cake or two for them to chose from as well (bit like when all inclusive on holiday) oh have some fruit as well, either whole or chopped n peeled for toppings.
    add fruit to their drink

Ahaha your son is amazing. Bless his heart.

Where on earth did he get the idea from love him, has he been watching come dine with me or masterchef etc? Come dine with me is sort of a restaraunt party isn't it? Maybe he is watching that on the sly instead of CBBC. I just love the way that he was obviously waiting for you to ask what he wanted to do for his birthday and this little idea was already all thought out and ready for mum to do, lol.

    Either way, I love it.

What a lovely party idea, our 99p store has great table decorations & big birthday candles that I think looking at the pack may open up & sparkel, may not but that's what the pic on the front looks like.
I hope you all have a wonderful time.

Lolalemon A few people have suggested pizza, I think it may be the easiest and most fun option for them and I love the idea of the layered jelly and ice cream toppings ooooo I want some now!!!

sp1987 I am slightly embarrassed to admit this but I love come dine with me and we often watch it before they go in the bath in the evening:o I think it's possible that's where his idea has come from.... What have I done!!!!!!!

This is a fab idea. My dd had a similar themed party in November for her 5th birthday. Our restaurant was called Mama Mia's Pizzeria and dd and her friends loved it. I was the chef and dds dad was the waiter, both of us with dodgy Italian accents :D

We had potato wedges and garlic bread for starters and a design your own pizza for main. I made the pizza dough and the kids all came to the kitchen and put whatever they wanted on their pizza, very messy but lots of fun. Dessert was ice cream with different toppings of their choice or fruit dipped in chocolate( we borrowed a chocolate fountain from a friend)
Once the meal was over we got the karaoke machine out and had a song and dance. All the kids absolutely loved it. I think it was because they were treated like grown ups for once. Occasionally I still open Mama Mias Pizzeria, it works out cheaper than going to pizza hut and the kids love it :D
Your son will love it x

No need to be embarrassed, it is just entertainment tv. I often have it on in the background for the token nutter that is always there throwing the food on the floor, not washing it and then cooking it anyway .

Either way though, no surprise he wants to play come dine with me if he has watched dozens of them and he has been in a grand total of none of them.

I am glad for you that you are not being pressured to go snorkelling in a loch in mid winter, or being shot at by paintballs or going caving etc. I think you have done quite well on this ... and don't pretend you won't enjoy it :rotfl:
  • What a great idea for a party! I quite like the idea myself, now all I have to do is find a chef and some waiting staff.............!

All I would suggest is making as much in advance as possible. Meatballs etc would be great made the day before and reheated, or if you do pizza you could make the bases ages in advance and freeze. It also means that you could offer choices if you want as you wont have to do too much prep on the day, you can sneak in and watch you little one enjoying his meal!

To add to the ambience of the "restaurant", how about one of them neon bar signs that says "Open"
    Like this one:

or if you know what you are going to name the restaurant, you could get one made up specially with the restaurant name on it. It would make a lovely keepsake to bring out on birthdays and special occasions in the future.
I bought a friend a personalised one as a present and she absolutely loves it and always has it on!!
