A strange party request!!!

It's DS1's 5th birthday in a few weeks and when I asked him what he'd like to do he said he'd like to have a restaurant party???? Thing is I don't really know what he means, when I questioned him further he said he'd like his friends over and have a meal like at a restaurant except made by me. The idea in theory sounds a good one because money is very tight and I could just have him invite 4 or 5 friends then we could go to the park but where do I start and what could he mean?! Do I do a menu with choices? What sort of food?

What an odd request for a four year old!!!

Thank you in advance for any ideas Mx

  • Get him to talk to you about what he wants on the menu, write them out and give them one each to illustrate/colour in on the day? Put a white pinny on and have a notepad and pen?

Call them sir and ask them what music they would like??!! Do you have a toy cash register?

  • i would organise a menu with your son, then type it up (or hand make them with your son) like a menu (only with 1 choice with eat course, maybe two for dessert)

    ie.

    Starter

    Crudities and Dips

    Mains

    Pizza

    Dessert

    Jelly with Icecream or Custard

  • I agree with gratefull get your son to help you decided on a menu and make a menu up for each guest. Table cloth and napkins on the table, and lay the table, maybe get some plastic wine glasses (I know my DS who is 12 thinks that this makes drinks taste better) .
If your going to be doing the cooking maybe et someone else to act a waiter, who will take their order and make sure glasses are filled ect.

I don't drink very often... and I drink milk from my wine glasses... and it DOES make it taste better!

    Oh and Milkshakes...

    Even icecream... very fancy x

Some fantastic ideas! love the menu ideas and taking their orders! I just hope whoever he invites is as enthusiastic as he is about the party idea!
The plastic wine glasses sound like a great idea as well, We could make up some personalised place mats as well. Now to think of the menu. It's quite exhausting isn't it!!!!!

:) Hey, this could be big fun with a smallish group.

Get a proper table laid and gussy it up with a tablecloth and proper napkins. Perhaps a centerpeice (cheap pot of flowers with a ribbon? Candles not too clever with this age group! Fiddle with the lighting?

:) Make them dress up in their best duds and if you have a willing accomplice, make him be a waiter and show the guests to their seats and make a big palaver over it. Take their coats etc etc.

:) if you have a computer you can mock up a menu (with little or no choices in reality) with a fancy font and put it in little cardboard folders. Perhaps little place cards. All this can be done in a few minutes at miminal costs.

:) How about a bottle of soft drink in a fizzy "champagne" type bottle? They do these at my 99p store and they have a satisfyingly grown-up "pop". Perhaps the wait-staff can affect a humourous French or Italian accent with some themed music playing in the background.....

:) At the end of the meal you can present the "bill" in a discreet folder on the plate and perhaps the birthday child can pay in chocolate money? Or not pay and be forced into the kitchen to wash the dishes.......:rotfl:
