Hi after a diagnostic check, the EGR valve had a fault? Cost to repair would be £244.57? Is this reasonable for a 'Clio Dynamique DCI 80' ?
Is it possible for it to be cleaned? or not because they are electrically controlled? Or is best to replace? Unsure
Apppreciate any help

Thx

  • They can usually be cleaned... Chances are its stuck solid with carbon.

How handy are you with the Spanners?... I'd have a bash at doing it yourself and save a few quid..

Then you need to sit down and work out if your wallet is bigger than your need to learn.
Do a search on Ebay and Google for a new 9Non Renault) valve then do a search for replacing it (mechanically) You can bet if the charge is £244 the valve will probably cost about 30 quid. Practically all Renault stuff has a 1000% mark up. Renault (and Citroen) are gangsters of the highest order when it comes to selling parts.

Hi I realise that with renault dealers, always used until recently. This quote isn't from a renault garage. I realise the EGR Valve is an expensive part, just wondered if this price was competitve?

I took the one out of Laguna and cleaned it myself. It wasn't hard at all, just messy.Check on the OC forums, there will be a guide to doing it.

Just looking on Ebay, the valves range from £100 - £150 (with only putting Clio DCI egr valve in the search)

So the valve with your fitting would suggest it is £150 parts, £100 labour (2 hours).

I don't know how long it would take to change this part, but if it is tricky 2 hours seems fair enough and the quote of £244 seems reasonable.

But, ring around other garages first and see what other quotes you can get.

The one on my X type went after less than two years. It was changed under warranty, but even a Jag dealer wouldn't charge over £200 to supply and fit one. Part is about £100 and it takes 30 minutes to fit on an X type.
