Broadband, and new mobiles needed, advise please

Hi, my service from 3 has let me down too much now. I'm looking for broadband and 2 mobile phones for the cheapest a month.
Im after reliability and decent price.
Phone wise he can have basic £10 a month hardly any calls or texts, me, I would like a new smart phone like a Desire or Wildfire or equivalent, using about 500 mins a month, 100 texts and 1mb internet.
Broadband is for laptop and mainly surfing internet but also a college course online.
Can anyone advise?
We have freeviewat mo but are after a facility to record programmes and we have no land line but dont really need one either.
Its a mess!

For low volume use PAYG easily beats contract on cost. Lowest cost PAYG I'm aware of is ADSA.

Desire class phones come free with £25 up 2 year contracts and there are dozens to choose from. Many contracts now only offer 500MB internet rather than the 1GB which used to be the norm.

If you are prepared to take a slightly downmarket smartphone then the Orange San Francisco PAYG can be had for £85 (including £5 from TopCashBack) unlocked and put on a SIM only contract but at the volumes you are talking about it probably isn't worth it.

Internet without a phone line means 3G or cable if you can get it. The correct choice of 3G provider is whichever one works best where you want to use it. Buying prepaid SIMs off eBay can work out cheaper than contract depending on bandwidth needed.
