    On that note, I seem to have several versions of .NET installed. Do I need to keep them all?

    Some applications require specific versions of .net (or did at one time, in some cases later updates made them compatible with later versions of .net). In your situation, I'd uninstall all of them, and then reinstall as needed (if a program asks for it).
