Hi all

I've had the following four updates trying to install themselves for a few days now.
They are all for the .NET framework and are listed as:
KB982168
KB979909
KB983583
KB2418241

I've tried rebooting before installing but it's still not happening.
I've got Windows XP Home installed if it helps.

Anyone any ideas?

The obvious suggestion would be to uninstall .net, reboot, then reinstall (the next time you run an application that actually needs it, the application should tell you how or do it for you; or if necessary you can Google where to download it manually).

I'll try that when I get in (I'm at work now).
    Cheers

    Try this....

    1. Open an Administrator command prompt by clicking on the "Start" Button -> "All Programs" -> "Accessories" -> Right click on "Command Prompt" and selecting "Run as Administrator" and clicking "Allow" for the elevation prompt.

    2. In the command prompt, type the command below:

    fsutil resource setautoreset true C:\

Press Enter on your keyboard. Prompt should return that with "The operation completed successfully"

    3. Close/Exit Command Prompt window;

    4. Reboot the machine

    5. After reboot, Open Windows Update, reinstall the updates again.

It should solve the problem, i had a similar problem with windows 7 pro which came with my my laptop from Positive IT. The software they put togther is really poor, it would instal but had half a ton of bloat where on it and half the updates never installed. I phoned them up and they knew what it was straightway (i am guessing they had quite a few calls). He sent me this e-mail with these instructions on and the updates installed fine after following the instructions.

Try, and install the updates, one at a time. Thats often solved problems.

I get an error message that say "resource is an invalid parameter" with a list of options that don't mean a lot to me.
