A scam or legit???

Hi,

I got a call from America from a company saying that I had some shares. This company said they were acting on behalf of someone else who wants to buy 51% to own the company that I have shares in. It was a while ago when i bought the shares and I was unsure of the name changes.

She has since rang to say her legal department have comfirmed my ownership and have asked I sign a non disclosure form so I 'don't tell anyone else'.

Now they have said that I must pay a bond (not yet said how much) to guarantee that I don't pull out of the agreement.

It sounds very lucrative to me if true...but I have, but I have my doubts! Is this a scam???

I haven't put the name of the company on here - am I allowed to?

Please help!

They want to buy shares and they want you to pay a bond? They've only contacted you by telephone, nothing official in writing?
I could be wrong, but my suspicion is that as soon as you've paid it you'll never hear from them again - unless it suddenly transpires that there are more "fees" that "need" to be paid.
  • Thanks Chris,

I have had an email about the non disclosure form.

The company is called Harris James Associates in new York.

I understand if this gets deleted!

"If you have been contacted by an unauthorised overseas firm, it would be of assistance to the FSA if you would provide some information on your dealings with that firm by completing our on-line reporting form."
  • Hi,

if you want to sell the shares, sell them through a broker.

    I would be 100% suspicious

As posted earlier, they are listed on FSA site as being involved in Boiler room scams!

    Thats a common scam.

It is advance fee fraud where they want you to send some money to them first before they pay you an amount. You send the money and you never hear from them again.

I have been made aware of several of these recently including one that listed a real UK limited company and headed paper that looked real. However, the company in question had never issued any shares to the public and was wholly owned by Severn Trent Water.
