Also by filling up more often I'm getting fresher fuel rather than having stale fuel sitting in my tank for longer! :D

Wow, how many months does half a tank last you?:D

i always drive around with my lights on, it makes me more of a presence to others, would it make lots of difference in terms of petrol?

i have exactly 10 litres left when the warning light goes on, which gives me about 90ish miles

I have a Land Rover doing 17mpg with a bottomless tank...... I stuck £120 in it recently and was only 3/4full - no idea what it would take to fill it these days. ouch.

  • Eolys isn't the same as Adblue, it is a calcium based fluid and costs over £10 litre, whereas adblue is only 60p per litre. I found this out the hard way by putting adblue in my citroen, whooops. I found more details on these here
    AdBlue: http://www.adblueonline.co.uk/

I think you will use adblue in commercial vehicles and some larger domestic diesel engines like the Mercedes S class

I budget a specific amount per week for petrol (usually about £25) and put that amount in each week. If you can work out what your usage is and divide it by months/ weeks you could just put in what you need each time

  • Petrol is 0.72kg a liter so a extra 20 liters is only 14.40kg. Makes more sense just to fill up to full and spend a lot less time in petrol stations :).

How does it 'slop' out? I fill it up to the top, then put the cap in place...

Fuel is stored in underground tanks at around 50deg.F. If you fill up on a hot day the fuel will expand and, if you don't drive a fair distance that same day it will overflow. My gas-guzzler Jag. has a "miles left in the tank" [range] fuel computer reading. If I fill up on a hot or warm day and do a long journey the range reading can take up to 100 miles to come back down to the initial cold fuel reading displayed immediately after filling.

Re. effects of air con., I've tried a number of times to detect effect on mpg. but always found it to be undetectable due to bigger variations e.g traffic density. I know, of course, that air con. uses power but on average I'd think no more than 1 bhp. compared with the 20-40 bhp required to propel an average car at constant speed.
