I was made redundant 4 weeks ago. I cry all the time, will someone tell me how to be positive. I loved my job with a passion. I am £15,000 in debt. I no longer know what to do.

You are probably so sad because you feel out of control of the situation you find yourself in. The best way out is to take control and go to the Citizens Advice Bureau to talk to their debt advisor. Once you can see a way forward with your financial situation start looking for a replacement job in a positive way. It's out there, you just have to start looking. Maybe it's even better than the job you left. It's their loss, not yours.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Do not adjust your mind, the world is at fault.0 -
this is hard to explain but everyone use to say i loved my job more than my family this almost was true, i haven't felt like this since my sister died. Iwas working 45-55hrs a week somedays from 8.00 in the morning till 10.00+ at night, I took 10 out of 24 days holiday last year and worked the rest with out pay. I have worked more than 3 weeks some times with out a day off. I often didn't stop for lunch. and would be on my feet all day. I always did everything I was asked. I loved my job. Then they just decided to get rid of me. I did nothing wrong . But I was told to go like I was thief. when I went to collect my stuff which had all been put in a bin liner I was marched off the premises. I know other people are now doing my job, I cant ever imagine feeling happy again.
I know I am full of self pity and I am sorry0 -
You have to be patient, strong and above all you have to believe in yourself. I see that you have a husband and children. They are here for you as much as you are here for them. Don't give up on anything you have built. Life always has ups and downs, and everybody goes through this. It is never easy, but things always get better, just keep fighting for what you want.
Please don't let your debt overcome you. Go talk to experienced people about your debt situation, and when you have an interview, relax and show them what you have!
Good luck for everything, and again don't give up!0 -

Things always happen for a reason, and unfortunately, you can never know why it happened, but you can only aim for the better. But be sure that if you are this much committed, I have no doubt you will find a job soon and that you love. Again, you have to believe in yourself, move on, and look forward to a bright future.0 -
I have just been through a very difficult year at work and can totally relate to the love your job mentality, however you can get through this. I never thought I would want to leave my job, but now will be doing so despite fighting to keep my job and clear my name in an harassment case.Which has just finished after a year- if I needed proof of how badly anoyone can be treated this was it, not once or twice but for a whole year! Yes I still thought I loved my job! Lets just say I now totally understand I was a number and however much I love the job, it was misguided love!
Please go to your doctor and request counselling , you may have to wait but it is worth it.
Sadly people get kicked in the teeth many times and counselling will help you cope and understand how you feel and whats right for you.
The debt problem is of course an added worry. You have nt said what your debts are, ie bank CC etc. Start off going to your bank (yes I work for one!) as staff maybe able to help and depending how you are feeling information is available to point you to other debt services. Please do this before long, ie tomo if possible
Good luck0 -
Losing your job can be like any other grieving process and you need time to get over it. It does sound like you need to speak to someone with experience and build your self confidence up again so that you can move forward. I agree with the other poster who mentioned CAB as a starting point. They'll be able to give you lots of good advice on your debt. You will get through this.0

You dont say whether you are concerned that it was a fair redundancy selection? My concern is your reference to the fact that someone is now doing your job and you were unceremoniously marched off the premises.0

I am just being made redundant and I loved my job too - it felt like a grieving process but I would start to be positive - look at what you liked about your job and go and find it somewhere else. I analysed what I liked about my current job and realised that there some parts that I didnt like - the office politicals etc etc - I went and had a meeting with the Next Steps Advisor and Business Link courses and realised I am going to become freelance in the same field but in control.

Exactly. If OP was made redundant and her company was stupid enough to employ someone else under the same job title then as I believe it OP would have a case for unfair dismissal.
So please OP look into this, just in case you have a case.0 -
You go through a cycle of denial and acceptance. We had 18 months notice and lots of redundancy counselling and yet I walked round feeling lost for a week- it was like a holiday/weekend but no emails to check- no-one from work calling.
I never thought it would affect me- I even had a quick tear but you have to find a way to move on. I was actually looking forward to it until it happened. 3 weeks on I am finding bits of contract work- sleeping through the night for the 1st time in years and rediscovering weekends. I have worked 70 hours plus a week for last 15 years. I think you have to take it as a chance to change your life for the better.
It will get better. Can you get counselling or go on a redundancy course?0
