Undecided as yet but will probably go with it just for this statement aloneCardew wrote:it is a gamble, but can anyone see gas/electricity prices being around the current price in 2010?
Any short term loss will properly be offset by the long term gain.
Just remember anyone else who has this offer must post back by 20th of December to be eligible for this offer.0 -

Gas from £19 to £34 a month and Elec from £66.50 to £97 a month
A huge increase of £45.50 a month - have looked on uswitch etc and there doesn't seem to be any savings to be made anywhere
Think I might ring them and say I am thinking of leaving and see what they can offer me to stay!!
They wont offer you anything to stay.
This isn't like the mobile phone industry, you use what you use and it's as simple as that. You wouldn't phone BP or Shell and ask them what they can offer!
They could reduce your direct debit, easy, but that doesn't mean that in 12 months you wont be £300 behind.0 -
Still undecided, anybody made up their mind what to do? Thanks0

I got this letter from Scottish Power earlier this month as my capped deal also finishes at the end of the month.
I have decided to shop around and move supplier to someone else - I will be paying more(given all the price increases over the last few years while I have been capped) but not as much as I would under Scottish Power's standard online or 2010 fixed tariffs.
Personally, I think prices have peaked and are going to fall over the next year.
Even, if I planned to stay with Scottish Power, I would stick to their standard online tariff - paying a premium of £5.50 (or £66/year!) just to 'guarantee' these already very high prices won't increase is a joke..
I think we all made a very good decision to cap our prices a few years ago, but it would be a mistake to do it again atm.
Under the 2003 tariff, we paid £1/1.50 a month for the right to have 'capped prices' - as I say, £5.50 is a joke..

Have electricity or gas domestic prices ever gone down? To my knowledge they never have once they go up they stay up. The utilities always give some excuse for keeping them up.0

Yes, they have - not recently mind you but they have in the past and will do so again.
You can tell this is going to happen in the future as well - as some suppliers are even 'guaranteeing' price cuts - i.e. British Gas's 'Fix and Fall' tariffs.

My leaflet says that I can opt out with no penalty if prices fall.
I haven't had a price capped agreement with them before and I don't currently pay by Direct debit, so maybe this is just an additional sweetener to get me in.
Just thought I'd mention it anyway0 -
I have noticed a pattern on several threads that say 'see what they will offer if I stay'. All that can be offered is one of their advertised and published tariffs, call centre staff have absolutely no flexibility in this. What they may be able to do (if allowed) is reduce the monthly instalment for direct debit customers however all that is doing is deferring the payment of exactly the same amount.
Current thoughts are that gas prices will all next year but elecricity ??? who knows?
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0
