Legal Aid - Rant

Not sure if this is the right board to post on but am looking to see if anyone has had a bad experience with legal aid, someone i know has been messed about left right and centre by these people, (this person is also suffering with depression and had a nervous breakdown from an abusive relationship so it took a lot to leave their marraige, they have worked in this country for many years had businesses paid taxes and are fighting a divorce claim the legal aid centre one minuite issues a cert then the very next day cancels it this has also happened to someone else i know what other business could do this its like saying you can supply something one day and saying you cant the next ?

They start by supporting the client and at each stage reassess the situation if anything changes in your life in between these assessments which can be between 3 or 5 assessments i.e. you have less money, or anything that changes if bills go up if bills go down and in this circumcstance the case has gone on for over a yr when you fill out their forms which as most people know are complicated forms then look for a reason to stop it on silly little things, and then involve a adjudicator to reassess their questions although the client has provided adquate answers therefore costing a lot of money to involved another party, yet when a person who comes here pays no taxes cant speak a word of english gets legal aid at the drop of a hat something is not right, and changes in the system will leave many people flabergasted. Justice is what Justice is and Legal Aid i thought are supposed to be there for those who need help in creating Justice just wondered how many people have had this problem and what the outcome was.

When an person who is having to fight for whats rightfully theirs is not getting the support they need from the justice system to address their situation this country is getting into a very poor state of affairs and the outcome could leave this person homeless through no fault of their own just the fact that the justice system is looking to avoid supporting them, i must admit i used to be slightly judgemental of peoples circumstances in life but i can see now why so many people are having to go bankrupt the person who is deaing with this situation is looking to address their situation in order to avoid having to do this and with the help of the system can pay off their debts but if they dont get the support that is supposidly there in circumstances like this, they will be another of britains bankrupt stastic who cant pay their debts to society even though they want to. Absolutley ludicrous but that s the Britain for you.

No wonder finances in this country are in the state they are, by the way the debts that were built up in the marriage were taken out in this persons name as they were bullied into it through mental and physical abuse and in hindsight now realises they should have left the marriage earlier but over years had been controlled until after counselling they built up the courage to leave, and face up to their abusive partner.

Wow. Difficult to follow your rant, I'm afraid.

Do I understand it that your friend had legal aid and that now it has been withdrawn?

So the issue is a divorce claim and no useful help from legal aid?

    Hello Squeaky

The issue is financial settlement, divorce has been awarded but the o/p has all the assets and is witholding paying the other person their share so legal aid are there to help fund the legal costs to fight the person without moneys corner because the person witholding paying them their share is being un cooperative and wants to make them bankrupt by witholding their share of the martial funds basically in order to punish them for leaving the abusive relationship they were living in and because they have found the courage to leave the person with all the money is now using financial bullying tatics to punish this person further so the legal system is in place to help people in these unfortunate circumstances

If the amount is under £5,000 you could try the small claims court...

    Failing that, how about CAB?
