Hi,
i just got letter from landlords saying calor gas is putting up price of gas from 1st december by 3.5ppl+ VAT. it means i have to pay 54ppl (including VAT)
Problem is i don't know how to calculate my usage in liters. readings from meter are 28/1/2011= 257265 and 9/3/2011=259963. it means i used up 2698 ft3 of gas. how many liters is it? how do i convert it?
i got invoice for £150 from landlords and it seems to be too much considering im in small house and using heating only few hours a day.
Thanks for any advice.
Hi gogostar
By my reckoning,
1 imperial gallon of LPG = 35.79 cu ft at 1 atmosphere (sea level)
1 gallon = 4.546 litres.
Therefore 2698 cu ft = 342.7 litres.
Anyone disagree?0 -
This will cause chaos amongst the Air Source heat pump 'supporters' and the heat pump 'bashers', but......., and I know some houses are just not suitable or ready for this type of heating system yet, (insulation levels, DG, size of radiators, etc) and can be quite expensive to install initially, but it is worth considering, lets face it LPG is at 54p/pL, oil is currently 59p/pL, yes, and will continue to increase, electric will also increase in price......but what are the options anymore? if we all fit wood stoves.....wood will become in short supply, and thus, an expensive fuel and the government will tax it.....
It is the government that want us to stop burning fossil fuels, but they are not making it easy for us to change to the alternatives....There are three types of people in this world...those that can count ...and those that can't!

I just had the 4ppl letter too-and after I threatenend to leave last year, they wrote to me ( i still have the letter) saying they agree to supply me for 39.5ppl....but it doesn't say how long forDebt-free...and staying that way...0

I've had the letter too. Mine goes up another 4ppl from 47.5ppl to 51.5ppl at the start of April.
Last rise was from 44p to 47.5p some time in November, so they're in breach of their contract.
Has anyone actually successfully held Calor to their contractual obligation, as opposed to "going elsewhere" for supply?
Or even get them to fill the tank BEFORE the price increase?0 -
I have requested a tank fill before the increase and been advised they will definately be here before 4th april (price rise day).
I tried to hold them to contract but they have a clause in their that says if they up the price by more than the specified amount then you have the option to go elsewhere by giving them 42 days notice in writing. Every time someone calls them, they spout this and tell you to go to someone else if you don't like it.
Will be writing a strong letter to them tomorrow so will advise of the outcome.0 -

It is exactly this sort of response that makes the 'contract' worthless.
It would be worth reporting this to the current OFT investigation regarding off grid fuel. Their contact is held somewhere in the bulk lpg thread.0 -

Frankie,
Just had a quick look at the OFT site and it appears that the investigation is now closed to public contributions?
Totally agree on the worthless contract comment though. I wonder what would happen if one of us poor customers were in breach of contract with them?0 -
Well I had some success....I emailed Calor after receiving the 4ppl rise letter, and said what about the letter you sent me last year when I renewed my contract, saying my price would be 39.5ppl??? To my amazement they emailed back this morning saying ah, yes, sorry, that was a mistake, you should not have been sent the increase letter as you are indeed contracted to a lower price.....!!!! Question is, if I hadn't queried it, whats the chances of them just charging me the higher amount anyway and seeing if they can get away with it??Debt-free...and staying that way...0
