    cheers

I'd probably prefer to keep it all with one provider to avoid confusion and any extra hassle. The only thing I haven't found on the Voip.co.uk site is how much it costs for someone to call me (is it BT rates?)

With the UK pack, the £20 per year package you will be issued with a local (or any area-code you wish) 01 or 02 number, so the cost to call your VoIP number will be the same as calling any other landline 01 or 02 number.

    BT customers pay:
5.5p for up to 60 mins off-peak and 3p/min peak.

Primus Saver Option 2 customers pay:
    0p for up to 90 mins off-peak and 2.5p / min peak.

    18185 customers pay:
    4p per call.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
just to add, with voip.co.uk (which works great for me) I think you can set forwarding to another number (your mobile if you want to), in case the broadband goes down.

voip.co.uk are currently working on some new services, including a new and improved voicemail.. Their UK package is a very good deal. They've also got very good support..

  • cheers Scope, very reassuring to know of a satisfied customer.

Ideally I don't want to buy their hardwear, so i need to check that my netgear wireless router (DG834GT) that i got with sky broadband is compatible and will do the job!

The Netgear router Sky supply is just a standard wired/wireless router and doesn't have any VoIP ports, so you will need either an ATA or Ethernet VoIP phone and connect it to one of the four wired Ethernet ports.

looks like you plug this into the wireless ADSL router Sky give you and then a standard phone plugs into the fritzbox....does that sound right?

its about the same price as the cheapest ethernet VOIP phone i found on google...which i presume could plug into the standard sky router?

or am i way off on both counts?

This is the 2nd version of the PAP2 I use. This you just connect to the wired port of your router, then attach a phone/s. It has two phone lines (each with a REN of 5, so you can connect several phones to one line, like you would your usual landline), you don't have to use both lines, you can use just the one, or use both with the same account and therefore have two lines with the same number and be able to use both lines on the same number at the same time.

There's also: http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop/ShopDetail.asp?ProductID=2499, though the Linksys / Sipura ranges are the ones most people go for as they are much more configurable.

IP phones do start from around the same price at the PAP2 ATA.

  • and this just simply plugs into my sky router...and that's it? just like plug and play? because the reviews talk of some difficulty in configuring elements of the adapter..as you've guessed i'm not a techie LOL

can this still work when the PC is off?
