Keep watch for when/if your Safeway converts to Morrisons. The day before closing for conversion all items were being sold for silly money.
Sassy shoppers take note. Last year following a hospital visit (telling you this so's you realise I am not a total bargain tart) dropped into our local Asda on Easter Saturday evening. Easter Sunday being one of the only compulsory closed days, the volume of 'sell by' bargains were effectively tripled. My 2 freezers ended up in severe overload, and I only went in for a loaf of bread and a pint of milk!si talia jungere possis sit tibi scire satis 0 -
Its not converting as it is too small. So its staying as a 'safeway compact' - and may be sold off by morrisions - though it cant become a somerfield as there is one just up the road.
Nice info about Asda though - however Asda is one store where I am wary about bargains - even the stuff in-date is often questionable. Oh well, just a poor branch of Asda maybe, each store varies0 -
Very seldom use Asda myself, just it was convenient that day. I am guessing that all supermarkets will have overstocked some items for the inevitable pre-holiday shopping madness, so I may well check this out at my usual venue this year.si talia jungere possis sit tibi scire satis 0

asda and other supermarkets some times catch a cold.
look out for coke pepsi ect plus beer on special offer if england crash out of sporting competitions early,as they always overstock for these events.
BBQ items as well, if its a wet summer.0 -
The reason the store will allow the reduced price items to go threw and allow the BOGOFF items to still go threw is because the store gets the money back threw the supplier!..so effectively they are still making money even tho it looks like they are not..example
Fresh mince..BOGOFF 4.99 reduced to 1.99 per pack
1.99*2 = 3.98
-4.99 (BOGOFF) means that u will b in credit by 1.01 BUT..the store will claim back the 4.99 for the BOGOFF item back threw the supplier..if the item dosent go threw the till at a multisave then the shop loses that free 'money'
There is also a way for the stores to make money frm the supplier without even selling anything.. For example if one PRETENDED to buy (example as above) mince 4.99 100times (499)..(Ie the store manager) rang it threw the tills so that the store would get the credit back for the 50 free ones and this was put threw as CASH on the till..theres nuffing stopping the till to be updated by VOIDING 499 off the till and then the mince being put bak on the shelves!...I work in a supermarket where my manager is a very cunning one and he will do anything to make his store do well ...so tat he can get his bonuses of course!!!!
Hope that makes sens as bit hard to follow!0 -
I hate these new barcode things - they have killed off the oppertunity to get these deals in the main. At ASDA where I work they use barcodes, but when I worked at Sainsburys they used the "yellow/orange labels" I bagged 50 bottles of Scrumpy Jack cider, the latest Now CD, a load of magazines, some grapes and some jaffa cakes for about 80p due to them manually reducing the bottles to 20p each when they were on a BOGOF @ £1.15 each!!Wycombe Till I Die0

lipidicman wrote:But hey - reduced and BOGOF is still good, just not AS GOOD!
This works in Sainsbury's as stated, and I have done it in Waitrose and Somerfield (ie 2xreduced price - full price = negative).
I havent tried Tesco, good info about the barcodes
I know our Safeway compact (not converted to Morrisons, but sells their stuff) has a sign that says 'offers dont apply to reduced goods', but sometimes their reductions are great (like £3.50 chicken fillets to £1)
I hate 'shopping !!!!!!' - oh I've noticed! I like bargains, but I dont mind sharing. The worst are staff who reduce things by 10p so no one is interested, then you see them at the til with everything reduced to 10p. I saw one guy with twenty blocks of cheese - he must have been planning to sell them on, or he had a friend with a food business because you cant freeze cheeze! I was so close to complaining
Has anyone ever tried getting a negative bill by buying these deals in isolation- what would they do? They cant have their tils over - they get accused of short changing customers. What would they do? I've always been scared to see in case it alerts the management to the megadeals I get! The closest I have come is £1.25 for promo Shredded Wheat - 50p for buying 2x reduced oranges = 85p. The cashier looked very confused, checked the receipt, shrugged and said '85p please' in a ver
y unsure voice!

Just bought a few of the reduced items in Tesco but because they had proper barcoded reduced stickers instead of the manual ones the 2 for £3 or whatevers didnt apply. Still a bargain but could have been better with extra discount
We dont want much do we!!!! LOL :cool:0 -
pinkonion wrote:I usually go to Tesco but after reading this I went to my local ASDA (Coatbridge) instead. The Max Twist was priced as £1.32 and I thought oh dear - the buy 2 bottles for £2 signs were beside the full sugar Pepsi.
I thought oh well and bought 2 bottles thinking I'd at least insist on the £2 if I was overcharged. Lo and behold I did get them for 98p less the discount = 66p.
I went back tonight and cleared their shelves- 14 bottles. As usual when I buy offers I put 1 on the conveyor and told the checkout lady how many I had. If I'd been dishonest I could easily have slipped several normal Pepsi Max bottles in too (or been very dishonest and given a smaller number of bottles - they never check!)
Although the original post says this offer runs till 13/3 it's still on today - I got 10 bottles :T along with other shopping and used a Tesco voucher to get £4 off my £20 shopping :j0
