Ditching Sky- who next to go to?

Fed up now with Sky boxes breaking down, out of contract now so I am thinking of going to BT or Virgin for TV.
Anyone give me any pointers as to who I should go with, pros and cons? Thanks in advance for any help.

I've had Virgin media since they took over from NTL and apart from appalling customer service they have been very good.

Do I need a MAC code to leave Sky, I have not got BB or Phone with them?

  • If you went with Virgin's cable service for internet, you'd just cancel with your current provider. There may be a charge to cancel though. No MAC.

BT Vision is primarily Freeview with BT's On-Demand content. What's your freeview reception like?

Do you actually want/need subscription channels?

No, a MAC is required for broadband migration only, nothing to do with TV or phones.
Why don't you just get your digibox repaired using one of the suppliers iisted in the stickies? Then it will last for a lot longer.
Or ask Sky for a new one FOC, or otherwise you will be leaving.

Well I have my original Panasonic box after starting with Sky 9 years ago. Also I'm on Sky Freesat which means I don't pay a bean. I heartily recommend it!

Virgin also offer a freeview service (called TV M) and it don't cost a bean as well.

Any link for that I have a friend with Virgin and she is fed up paying them a fortune.

As it is freeview do they take away their box, which is cable, and give you something else?
    Any set up costs?

But why would you want to pay VM £19.49pm to give you a Freeview service that is free anyway with an aerial?
You have to take a VM phone line with this package at £12.99
Cost of an aerial maybe £100.
The M sub with VM is an 18m contract and will cost you £350.82.

Not quite the "don't cost a bean" suggested:cool:

Why not just buy a Freesat box?
It's the same connectors as a Sky box, gives you loads of channels and you can programme it for more channels as you see fit.
