NTL were taken over by Virgin some time ago, they have the monopoly on cable services. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Yes - there appears to be no amplifier present.
The wiring in the loft appears sound, going from the aerial on the roof down towards the socket.
In the socket (when I remove the cover - other than the present aerial cable (which I assume is "cable") there is a brown wire. I don't really want to play with that at the moment as brown=live. Although, why that would be in there I don't know. I don't fancy assuming it is the connected to the aerial cable in the loft).
I've contacted virgin and they have never provided service to the house. I'll try NTL, and if there's no joy there then I will get a freeview installer to have a look at it.
Any other ideas?
It's a brown co-ax outer sheathing. Mains cable live inner is brown, the sheath isn't.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Yes - it's the sheathing that is brown.
Within the sheathing, there is a clear/white plastic interspersed with copper wiring which seems to run through in a hatched arangement.
How could I extend/modify the end of this to put a female RF socket on the end and into the wall socket?0 -

ah - good to know. So having contacted virgin, there's not much point phoning round?
Now I'm puzzled then. I wonder what these aerial sockets are from?
Maybe there is a switch for an amplifier somewhere but I can't find it.
I'm waiting for the agents to get back to me with some info from the sellers. I will keep you informed.0 -
The aerials were probably there long before VM cable. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Then it's not a Virgin cable.NTL/VM only use white or black internal & black external flooded cable & the inside braiding is aluminium, not copper.
Anyway,if it was from a Cable service,it would run to an Isolator box & not a wall aerial socket,connecting with 'F' connections & not male/female Bellings.0 -
I thought we'd already established that this is a co-ax feed from one of the 2 aerials? No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I realise this will be a stupid question but I assume the OP has a freeview box of some sort?0

Youve moved propertys, probably moved transmitter, have you actually tuned the TVs in?0
