I work shifts and weekends and dont get paid any extra. And no I wouldnt pay a premium rate for a plumber on the weekend or after hours. I have a regular plumber I use, hes also corgi registered. hes reliable, and does not charge extra for coming out at weekends. I have called him out on a Sunday morning and he was with me within 2 hours. he always has lots of work and is well respected by all his customers because of the fact he doesnt charge extra.Baby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. What is an average hourly rate for plumbing now any way, can anyone tell me? or is it just what the market will bear?
I'm only asking because I recently had to have the diverter switch replaced on my Central heating / hot water system and it seemed to cost a lot more than I expected.
It was at a time of high demand - it gave up in the first cold snap, when just about everyone else's boiler refused to come back on after being turned off for the summer. I don't turn mine off, just control it on the thermostat, so I was quite peeved with the switch for picking that particular time to go!
And I guess I really should have got a quote for the job, shouldn't I? I just didn't think at the time, and it's been years since I've had a plumber come in to do anything, because my previous one emigrated to Australia for a better life, and I was nervous about finding a new one - even though the jobs were queueing up!
I don't even know how I would decide if a quote was reasonable?
Sorry Plumb1 - maybe I shouldn't put my query here, when it's your query that's being answered? can someone please move it if it's in the wrong place?"Be kind. For everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." Plato

for a heating engineer at this time of year from a national company depending on geographical location at dayt/time of call along weith demand for the service, you could be looking at between £59-£129 per hour + vat0

There was a survey, in a trade magazine I think, in September 2004. They banded the hourly rates, so hour rate band and % respondents:Leonie wrote:What is an average hourly rate for plumbing now any way, can anyone tell me?.....
up to £15 10%
£15-£20 24%
£20-£25 24%
£25-£30 17%
£30-£35 9%
£35-£40 6%
£40-£45 3%
over £45 7%
For some reason my notes have the average at around £25 per hour (must have done some weighting and juggling of figures
)
Don't forget those figures are over 2 years old.A house isn't a home without a cat.
