CHAPS Transfer - Santander

I've just found a villa I want to rent in Cyprus. The owners want me to send them the deposit in Euros. I've not done this before so went onto Santander's website to find that they charge £25 for the privilege. When I pay the balance that will be another £25 in their coffers. Is there any other way of transferring euros into the Villa's owner's bank account please?

Without cost no - how do you intend going to Cyprus?
Don't you think your attitude is a bit ridiculous?

Of course it's not! Customers should expect everything for free even if it costs the business something.

Have you not heard of the customer always being right!?

    (:p I'm in a sarcy mood today)

You could make only the one payment, which would halve your costs. If the holiday is for this summer then I'd imagine they'd want the balance fairly soon anyway.

Not all banks charge the same. For example, HSBC have an online offer at the moment which is discounted to £17.

I expect to pay a nominal fee to do this but just not £25 which I think is a bloody cheek.

Oh, and no I don't think my attitude is a bit ridiculous.

Don't you think your manners are a bid rude?

Could you put a figure to that?

Would you be happy with £12.50? If so, just send the one payment as I suggested above and think of it as £12.50 each. ;)

But that means they get to keep around £1500 of mine for 6 months and that really grinds my gears :o

You didn't answer my question...what do you call a "nominal" fee?

If it's £17 or more do you know anyone with a HSBC current account?

If it's (much) less than that it isn't going to happen! :)

No, it's not going to happen. Maybe would have paid a fiver, but that's about it. Been abroad the last 2 years renting villas and this is the first one that has asked for euros as opposed to sterling, so am going to keep looking. :(

Halifax charged £9.50 a go last time I sent funds to Germany online.

The payment got there the next day, beating the faster payment attempt I was sending elsewhere ;) .

Bank of Scotland seem to offering a £7.50 deal at present - I''d guess Halifax mirror it.
