We're having ours at the Bluebell @ The Joshua Bradley in Hyde - we love it but it might not be grand enough for you. We also looked at The Hey Green over Saddleworth way which is very grand from the outside, has amazing grounds and loads of space. You also get the full run of the place so noone else will be there and it has a few bedrooms. The decor wasn't to our taste though and when we visited on a weekday evening it smelled a little musty - but this is probably because they hadn't had a wedding the weekend before and therefore the rooms hadn't been used or properly aired.

These both look very nice, I might pop into the Joshua to take an informal look although it doesn't look as though they'd be able to do a bbq.

The Hey Green's discount option looks good. £4,375 for 60 day and 100 evening is about what we're after and will leave enough left for a budget coach.

EDIT: I've looked at the images on the web for The Joshua Bradley and this looks very very close actually. I've emailed them for a list of options but I reckon this will be going on my short-list. Thank you for this

The manager at the Joshua Bradley is AMAZING! He gives you enough flexibility for you to make the day your own, but reins you in when you're getting unrealistic or inpractical. There are also no hidden extras - we just had a wine and menu tasting for 4 people last weekend and he refused to take a penny off us for it even though all 4 of us had 3 courses, we tried 4 different wines, 2 sparkling wines, had a round of drinks and he let us take our favourite bottle home!

We're actually not in the Joshua Bradley, which is the pub part in the converted manor, we're in the Bluebell, which is the converted outbuildings, which is right next door but fully exclusive so you don't have to worry about sharing.

I've just got a brochure through for them and you're right, it does look amazing. Now all I have to do is get him home on leave and go up for a meal with the kids and a look around on the quiet.

Thank you, I think this does look a very good possibility.

    Hi,

Sorry i dont know the area, so cant be of much use there, but if you find out where the local registry office(s) are and look at their website (or phone) you will be able to get a comprehensive list of venues licenced for civil marriages.

It'll give you something to work through so you dont miss out on any potential venues you may not have considered/known about.

what ever you do dont book The Saddleworth Hotel http://www.saddleworthhotel.co.uk/index.html my cousin gets married in june/July time this year and went to book this venue. They were very very rude and ignorent and made my cousins partner cry so they have changed venues now. Just wanted to warn you x

I second that - I tried 4 times to get a brochure by email, I told them that we live 95 miles away and couldn't just drop everything to visit, I explained to them what we wanted and they told me we didn't want that, we wanted their supplier to provide cars, their supplier to provide cake, they wanted to provide the band, wouldn't give any indications of costs, insisted we had to visit despite having been brought up in the area & knowing the family who owned it before them.......you get the picture.

Thanks everyone for their advice, but after saying that my dream of getting wed in Rhodes couldn't happen cos of his mum's heart condition and the cost of travel insurance, which is why I've started looking at places in the UK, he's now changed his mind and decided we can afford her insurance after all.

Think I might just get hold of him by the ears and nail him to the floor till he makes a definate decision one way or another.

I'm not a bridezilla (much!) but for who ever looks over us's sake, I wish he'd stick to a decision so I can actually plan SOMETHING even if its a piggin party
