Informal Wedding venue Manchester/Cheshire/Lancashire anyone?

Me and the OH are finally getting married after 6 years together in a couple of years and I'm starting to look at venues.

We (sorry I, he's left me to it he's happy with what I want) want it in the one location, preferably one with a gorgeous garden kind of small stately home, but as it's going to be late afternoonish we (I) don't want a wedding breakfast just a selection of canapes and drink going into an evening barbeque / hog roast / hot fork buffet with a bit of music.

It will be end of August time, I'm hoping to get the Sunday before the bank holiday. Take advantage of sunday prices and people aren't in work the next day.

Does anyone know of anywhere that offers this? I've had a scout around but most places insist on a wedding breakfast or the place looks awful or if you deviate from their 'standard' package they pile on a fortune for a bespoke wedding.

Thanks for any suggestions

I'm getting married at Chester Zoo. They're really good with the food options...they do an afternoon tea or buffets if you don't want the traditional wedding breakfast. But the main thing they do for weddings is an evening BBQ with 'safari' round the zoo in the evening when it's closed to the public. Only drawback to that is you have to have a minimum of 60 guests I think

Another place that's lovely is Heaton House Farm in Macclesfield; they do all kinds of catering options and I know a work colleague there had hog roast when she married there.
And there's also Sandhole Farm in Congelton, again you can do less formal meal arrangements there.

I looked at Heaton House Farm and Sandhole and realised I could only afford them if I sold the kids to a pop star, they all look lovely but are so far out of my price range its unreal. Thanks though.

Seriously - have you considered doing less than full exclusive? I was so hooked on marrying at the zoo but can't run to the exclusive use, evening do etc, we're just having the daytime there with max 45 guests, and then going back nearer home for a party in a local football club for a fraction of the price. I'll have the zoo that I crave, all my wedding pics will be in the zoo grounds, then we have a nice affordable low-key party in the evening, where I might run to a few balloons but am not even thinking about chair covers etc

Buile Hill in Salford they are really flexible and as well as the private garden you then have the whole park to take advantage of for pictures :) Plus they are amazingly cheap and the food is supposed to be fabulous.

For the size of the venue I want I can't see them having the space for one than one wedding. Most of the family are Manchester / Bury based as are our friends so if we go too far out we'd either have no-one there or have to pay for a coach to get people back.

My budget for the wedding and reception is between £5,000 and £6,000 and most places that do what I want charge a lot more. I have looked at Mottram Hall and fell in love with the place but they won't entertain a package without a wedding breakfast especially an August wedding.

I was looking at a Winter wedding to bring it down but we wouldn't be able to have the option of eating outdoors.

Ooh I'll take a look at that, see if they'll let me have the alfresco reception of my dreams

We went to a lovely wedding here, with an evening BBQ. We stayed over as it was too far from home to drive back, the rooms were nice and breakfast was really good too.

I like Buile Hall and it would be a way of bringing my mum who died 11 years ago into it all as she was from round there originally.

Thanks MissPixie, this may be what I'm looking for. I'll take a trip out to the park to take a look around

This looks stunning and is very much like what I'm looking for but sadly a little too far our for our guests.

    Thanks for your suggestions
