I'm on a half day today and hope to get a lot done in the garden.

The runner beans are all starting to pop out of the plastic trays along with the mangetout. The first courgette has peeked out too so just waiting on the sweetcorn now. The lettuce really needs moved on to somewhere but want to make a wooden trough to accommodate the salad leaves etc and have more bulbs (ranunculus and cala lilys) on the way along with plugs - hope some are there today when I get home. Have to get more spuds put in in their bags.

I also collected a load of wallflower seeds last autumn and threw them in a pot and it looks like they have all sprouted. Some Hydrangea cuttings have also put out roots so will pot them up and hope to plant the remaining raspberry canes in place of the ones that didn't make it - and there were a few.

And the 4 fruit tree collection bought in January are now looking really healthy in their containers :)

Haven't even thought about getting the grass cut but hope to do this sometime over the weekend.

Are these from gardenbargains/idealworld? Mine are looking nice too, but none of them had any flowers! They did say on garden bargains website:

I should think yes to both, any but just a few and keep spare seed

It is baking today, reading 26.3 over the whole back. I put a table in a shady bit to plant out some more brassicas but the sun got over there too, just as I had finished. The new sowings are just in case ones ie in case my original ones don`t slow down as I want to get some in the allotment in early august. Gardening here is a completely different ball game to anything I have done before. We haven`t been here a year yet. It is important to go with the flow ie hot, dry and windy

I am inside now, shades drawn. We will have to go and water allotment seeds and seedling when it cools down as it doesn`t take much for them to shrivel up.

I am also planning fleecing and covers for a few nights after the weekend, when it will get cold enough to affect the plants if unprotected

We bought two 6x3 foot trellises today, ready for the cucumbers as they will be in a grobag on the middle tier, it gets windy here at times so they will be growing on flat trellises as they wouldn`t cope going vertical. Dh will just put some feet on the trellises so they are 6" off the ground

Oh my, I'm super late this year.. sowed some broadbeans last month, but nothing since.. but today I sowed peas, beans, mangetout, toms, courgette, cucumber, salad leaves... Bit annoyed that I've left things a bit late, but never mind, still got a good growing season ahead of me :)

Managed to get a couple of hours in the garden after work today. Haven't done anything much, but every bit counts! Only got back in the house at 8.20pm.

So, planted some strawberries around the currants and gooseberry. Ok, maybe not an ideal place, but I have so many now, that the containers are overfilling. By planting them out, I now have 2 long troughs to plant something else. Possibly some herbs? Will need to think about it.

Planted first of the trees out in the garden for mini-orchard collection - pear. It is looking nice, just starting to sprout. Maybe not ideal time to be transplanting, but I am sure it will be happier in the ground than in a tiny temporary pot I kept it in.

Looked at my chery that I bought from Ken Muir, it is covered in unopened blossoms (can't remember the word how o you call the bits before they start blooming!!!!). I bought it last year, and it already got a few leaves, so I thought there will be nothing this year, but now you can see that it is getting ready for a display!

Found some garlic that got lost in the beds last year, and transplanted that I think there are about 12 plants growing, not sure how many will survive transplantation. But they either were going out, or given a go in the new beds.

Don't think will be able to do much more over the weekend, apart from training OH how to take care of the plants whilst I am away with work for a few day. (Last year I had to go away for a week and he killed the heather that we have just bought and planted, because he wanted it! His excuse was that you didn't say that outside plants need to be watered as well - and it was the warmest days of April then)

I have just bought some peas, beans and courgette seeds. Can I plant them straight out in my new raised bed or should I start them indoors (where I haven't really got any room)?

I do have some cloches which I could put over the seed outside but is it still too early to plant outside?

peas are ok. broad beans are ok. french beans and runners would be best to wait a few weeks if they are going straight outside. courgettes too.

I always get up around 6.30 and have noticed, on my weather station, that the coldest overnight temperature is just about then. Beware of a drop overnight on monday/tuesday. I have already made plans to protect everything, including potato sprouts
