I just wouldn't buy it, you do realise you are buying trouble don't you.
If the owner, who probably bought it as salvage and repaired it, doesn't want to spend a couple of hundred on it, then how much do you think he would have spent fixing the damage?
Exactly, leave it well alone, unless the damage was repaired by a proper VAT registered Garage, with receipts, and you can see pre repair photos.
But an 8 yr old total loss with evidence that it hasn't been maintained?
I would give £500.

it scared me after watching fifth gear (also on youtube clip), two identical ford focus well it looked like it, although one had been repaired and areas been strengthed by welding and they did a head on crash test. the one which had accident damage repair came out so bad, as the crumple zones weren't working meaning it pushed the dash into the driver!
