I would leave it well alone.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. Hiya,
I have a toyota yaris 1L 54plate and paid £3800 for it 18months ago with 40000 miles on it.
Mr Clutch (as they are the only garage I could find with prices quoted online) charge £120 for new front brake pads and discs for any motor under 1l. So I would deduct 150squid off for those.
As for the small oil leak- I don't have any experience with this Im afraid. Your best bet would be to call up a garage and ask for their advice, they wont be able to give you a quote for the work without seeing it first but they should be able to give you a rough idea of how much you should be knocking off.
On another note, I would recommed the Yaris. Toyota's are very reliable (all recent recalls aside that is!) in my opinion and generally look after themselves. Mine has had no MOT issues and only req. an air filter change at service. I have replaced the battery however that was an old battery and OH leaving the door open overnight!0 -
Do go over it in great detail. In the last few days there was a thread here from someone who had bought a cat d only to then find that the airbags had been removed / not replaced and the warning light wires cut.0

If it's been in an accident I'd be wary, oil leak could be serious and there could be other issues too.
I did buy a Cat D car myself about 18 months ago, a six year old Mondeo for £1,600 and it cost another £1,500 to get on the road, been fine so far but I may have been lucky!:A0 -
Check out the insurance, you can get Cat C and Cat D write offs insured, but the number of insurers willing to do this is limited.
As it is a write off, very few people will be willing to buy the car at any price, so I'd go with a three figure sum rather than a four figure sum.0 -
Advertised for £2000 in good condition with no faults? I wouldnt pay that much
£1500 tops, Cat C or D knock £500 off.
Brakes £100+, Now the problem with small oil leaks are they tend not to get any
smaller. It may have been a mad oil leak "cured" with miracles in a bottle that swells
the seals thats why its now a small leak, Very soon that will fail and it maybe an
engine out job.
Not worth £1000. Unless your handy with the spanners and have the time and knowledge to
remove and refit engines, I would look elsewhere.
Also as above check insurance quotes, Premium maybe higher or they may only payout a reduced fee.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I bought a Cat D Volvo 460 for £100 a few years a back, had almost no problems with it. I drove it into the ground for a year and it failed it's MOT on a frayed rear seatbelt, nothing else. Removed the rear seat and seatbelts and took it back for a retest, then drove it into the ground for another year before it started needing anything serious (brake discs and shock absorbers) at which point I scrapped it and replaced it with a £125 Volvo 940 which did me until my finances improved and I could start running slightly nicer cars again.
Not sure I'd spend the best part of 2 grand on one though!0 -
personally wouldnt buy a repaired one myself unless i saw detailed reciepts etc for parts
i would however buy a damaged one to repair myself which i am looking to do on a new fiesta/focus this summer
i have no idea how much a yaris is worth without the accident marker on it as they are not my cup of tea.. however cat usually knocks around 20% of the value off dependant on the car..Sealed pot challenger # 10

Cat D are no problem. Very minor damage (maybe just locks for example) or it could simply have been stolen and not recovered within 6 months with no damage.
Cat C are more of a problem. They will have had damage which is not economical to repair with main dealer parts and labour. You can get bitten quite easily.0
