Alliance & Leicester Mortgage Payment Cover insurance

Hi,
I am hoping that someone will be able to offer me help on this!
I have Mortgage Payment Cover insurance with alliance and Leicester, I presume that this is the same as PPI?
Anyway, I am pretty sure that I was missold this 7 years ago and an continue to be charged this. I wasnt happy with this when I took out the mortgage but as it was my first mortgage I didnt know any better! I have only recently learnt that I may have a case for claiming some of this back but dont really know how to address it and am concerned that I will get ripped off by singing up to a company to act on my behalf.
I never take out additional inurances whether it be for a tv / washing machine etc so do feel that I have potentially been misled about the requirements.
Also, when I was made redundant and tried to claim on my policy I wasnt covered so very annoyed!
Any info/advise or points of reference would be very welcome for me to use as a starting point,

Thanks in anticpation

    Hi and welcome.

First of all have you already got protection for your mortgage?
As you will be aware its important to have protection incase the inevitable happens.

But otherwise if you have been mis sold you can make a reclaim I believe the same way as loan ppi.
Dunstonh would be the one here to help, and/or maybe MagpieCottage who both have experience in giving advice on mortgage ppi as well as loan ppi.
However, I note they did not pay out on a claim, so its a possible case in my opinion.

Hopefully dunstonh or magpiecottage will be along something this evening or possibly tomorrow now to give some advice on this matter for you.
Meanwhile check the link below to some useful advice on making a reclaim.

    Good luck.

It is MPPI. Similar to loan and credit card PPI but usually set up under and advice process with an audit trail by qualified staff. It is also considered best advice to have it. So, many of the reasons you may use for loan and credit card don't apply to MPPI.
Anyway, I am pretty sure that I was missold this 7 years ago and an continue to be charged this.

    How were you mis-sold?
I never take out additional inurances whether it be for a tv / washing machine etc so do feel that I have potentially been misled about the requirements.

I never take out extended warranties either. However, they are a long way from personal insurance.
Also, when I was made redundant and tried to claim on my policy I wasnt covered so very annoyed!

What was the reason for this? - this may result in you having a valid complaint or not.

  • Firstly, many thanks for replying so quickly,

Thanks for the clairification on the difference between PPI and Mortgage payment cover. I do remember at the time that there were many items that I had to sign up to including this and house insurance with A&L- not having an option to decline / find out my alternatives, and felt pressured into this. I guess this may have just been me feeling totally out of my depth but having recently discovered that A&L have been found to be in the wrong in a decent number of cases then I have thought I should perhaps pursue this.
Of course, when I was then made redundant (the company closed its offices and decided to move the remaining part of the business to the other end of the country!) and was unable to claim - what would payment protection cover cover you for if not for this?
I think I need to ring the A&L and clarify a few things with them before I pursue this further.

Again, many thanks for your advice on this already,
