If it will bring you pleasure and you will wear it again then I say go for it...choose something that you can wear again and is perhaps simple in design that wont date too much.

My Husband bought me pearl earings for our wedding day...they didnt cost a fortune but they matched the necklace that my dad had got made for me .... I dont wear either as much as I should but they are something personal that remind me so much of the day and are very much part of an heirloom in the making...

Black jewellery with red dress  That must have been gorgeous!

The only trouble with finding a substitute is that you'll always know it's a substitute, IYKWIM. I personally would decide on a price that I was willing to spend, and not look at anything above that price! Easier said than done sometimes, though!

Codemonkey, if you want us to google for you just say the word (can you tell I'm a complete magpie??? :rotfl:)

Black n red, sooo me lol

Re a substitute - I really wanted the Tiffany ring which has marquise diamonds (as my engagement ring has); however we couldnt afford it... as its nearly 3k. Our substitute was to get me a plain ring from a place that meant a lot to us - BUT it remains on my wish list and I will get it eventually...

But if you have the cash, get the most fabulous you can afford (or stretch to!)

It all depends on your priorities really. Is this money that you've earmarked for something else? Is it going to stop you doing something else you had planned?

I wanted to spend rather a lot on the basis that i have very little lovely jewellery. Most of mine is from supermarkets or places like next. Aside from my engagement ring and another ring i wear that was my nans.

But when i started looking i just couldn't spend the money. Every penny that we don't spend on this weddin goes into our house deposit saving (we've lost our first deposit, we're now in negative equity) and we'll need to move before we can try to start the family we so so want. So i look at the pricey jewellery and i just can't do it. Luckily, i then found these necklaces and it doesn't matter because i like them more than anything else i've seen http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/lilaccoast/product/freshwater-pearl-necklace-with-puffed-silver-heart and i don't think they're very expensive for wedding necklaces.

On the other hand, if we lived in the right sized house, and i had the money in the bank - eff it, i would be on the tiffany website right now, not the money saving expert one lol xx
saving up another deposit as we've lost all our equity.

Barneysmom - I know what you mean about the wedding ring, but we've already bought those. For me, it's something functional, that I will wear everyday - like the marriage - it'll be something that I love and never take off (hopefully), and will be with me through all the good and bad times.

Jinx - your jewellery sounds gorgeous. I've got some black jewellery that I love - it just catches the eye and looks beautiful. H2B is pretty good at the jewelley buying, but - he's bought me 3 pieces of jewellery since we've been together. A ring for our first Christmas (tanzaite triangle), my engagement ring (two tanzanite triangles), which is quite similar to the first ring and a necklace that matches the engagement ring and the other ring (tanzanite triangle). He's picked a theme and he'll continue to run with it until the world runs out of tanzanite triangles :rotfl:

kmmr - I'm not expecting to spend huge amounts just more than I've spent on anything for myself so far.

LEJC - your earrings sound perfect and just the sort of thing that I'm looking for. Just not another tanzanite triangle :rotfl:

twirly - its just money that I've managed to save from the rest of the wedding budget and not earmarked for anything except doing up the house. I cleared off my debts and then went straight into house deposit, then from there, planning the wedding, and no doubt after the wedding it'll be clearing the mortgage and doing up the house, and I've never just stopped and bought myself anything lovely just because.

Sapphire - please feel free to look for pretty things for me. Budget is maybe a couple of hundred pounds. I love vintagey stuff, am very partial to sapphires, emeralds and rubies (my colours are burgundy and ivory so rubies or pearls would probably be lovely) and nothing too blingy because it doesn't look good with the dress (I tried on a very blingy tiara and it just looked odd).

I fell for this - it just stood out as I'd never seen anything like it. I could adopt this whole shop - her work is stunning.

If you try folksy or etsy you may well be able to commission something really specific :) cel x
