I think the police wanted to demonstrate to the public just exactly what happens when they keep their truncheons in their pockets and don't indulge in kettleing.
Their passivity came over as odd....i remember Brixton in the 80's. In fact, the police seem to be more active if they catch you doing 33 in a 30 zone.

I haven't read the thread through properly and have people coming round any minute now for dinner.....but these protesters haven't got a phukking clue. They can choke on their idealism for all I care or come live my life........from beginning to end......they probably wouldn't last the course, all far too stressful.

If you really want to change things you have do it from the inside.......do what you believe, trade in the way you think is right, if you run a business, register it here in the UK and pay the taxes due....don't waste time and energy targetting businesses who they think are 'wrong'.....complete and total waste of time.....mind you, they'll be uploading their YT's and thinking they made an impact (cos it was shown on telly) and you know what?
They did phuk all of any value whatsovever...just made a mess, made a noise and that doesn't last. What last's is what you do not what you say.
I have guests arriving now so I'll get off me box but I am sooooo mad at the pointlesseness of it all. Winds me up to the nth

Tacit acceptance of the capitalist system probably wouldn't be a good way to end it, no.

Grosvenor Square in '68 with mounted police charging the crowd demonstrates how riots have gradually been more lightly policed over time.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Anarchism is a political philosophy which considers the state undesirable.

The thugs on the streets of London tonight are Trots & other forms of Communists, they are not anarchists.

That's why I questioned whether they were true anarchists or hoolies on a day out (I always suspected the latter in spite of the use of the symbol). After all, if the state is undesirable, then one shouldn't use it.

So called anarchists and your average person in the street aren't really interested in facts.

    It's all about perception.

Unfortunately the banking industry aren't exactly good at managing their PR are they?

We have had the long running campaign for high overdrawn charges where the banks come across as the bad guys.

Then we get highly publicised bonus payments running into the tens of billions, all this at a time when the cost of living and job security are real worries for many people out there.

Are we really surprised when people get angry, regardless of the validity of the target?

You lot need some education, you're missing the big picture, the whole economic system in uneconomic. There is no relationship between economic success and resource sustainability. Its a failed system, quickly going financially and socially bankrupt. Watch this ...

The idea that the youth protesting about it and even throwing paint and smashing a few windows is worse than the companies, governments and other fools that work to resist any changes of the redundant system is ludicrous.
Proudly voted remain. A global union of countries is the only way to commit global capital to the rule of law.

Why would I take economic advice from someone who trained as a drummer, has no peer reviewed papers and posts his thoughts on YouTube rather than the Economist?

padington name calling is very purile. If you don't want to be the one to appear a twit, you really should read back through previous threads on here. You would then know that Zeitgeist has already been discussed at length and debunked by plenty of people who have saved me the time and effort of watching it.

What are you talking about ? The current economic system is the only thing that has been categorically debunked from many people, in many ways with huge amounts of proven evidence. The system rewards the demise of a healthy and diverse ecosystem for us to live in. Thats just plane stupid.

I suppose you think that a system that fails to price the cost of its products is actually a wise one ?

The economist has a strong neoliberal bias, as does the mainstream academic establishment. Not to back up the opinions of whoever made that video, just to say it's important to consider the origin and bias of all your sources, not just the ones who aren't established authorities.
