whether the bank shouldnt have been bailed out wasnt my point, my point, and the one following it abuot someone acting as a freelancer is that we all minimise the tax we pay.

When peole talk about 1% corporation tax, thats all the businesses are doing, what we do on a daily basis to maximise our money.

I use salary sacrifice to avoid paying tax...

Can we please seperate the bank bail outs from the businesses minimising tax issue

No we can't. The banks have caused massive damage to the economy. They were in the very privileged position of being bailed out. In return they have paid a pittance in tax (relative to profit), increased their margins, and called in overdrafts to SMEs that are performing perfectly and have been refusing loans to perfectly good businesses that could aid our recovery from the mess they caused. To top it all when put under the slightest pressure regarding how badly they have shafted the tax payer and our economy they threaten to leave!

Hard to ignore any of that in a thread about why people feel so much hatred and anger towards the people who work in these institutions.

Still not sure what your point is regarding taxation, banks are treated no different to any other corporation or business.

so by that logic we should all have the freedom to carry guns and knives too?

To the same extent that the extreme alternative view is that we should have barcodes stamped on our foreheads, and shock collars and sub-dermal trackers implanted to stop crime.

Most people can understand the idea that freedom and safety often contradict, and that the extremes of both are unwise.

Where's the evidence? Debt by itself does not grow a business.

WWO does not need evidence, just does not like banks.

    Can you read?

The banks are a special case given the damage they have caused, needing to be bailed out and then causing more damage whilst doing everything possible to contribute as little as possible.

If you must comment on my posts it would be nice if you read them first.

    Nobody said it does.

Calling in overdrafts that are being serviced perfectly well enough and thereby creating a hole in a companies accounts that said company has to repay in a hurry is hardly growth creating.

A company not being able to exploit an opportunity with a loan that it could easily service is again not exactly helping growth either.

This is on top of the massive damage the banks have already done to the country.

I question the business sense of anyone who thinks the banks are well run.

Yes I can. Painting across a whole sector of industry with a spray can is indiscriminate though. The banks in question are a special case as they could have brought the whole UK economy to its knees. So much better to address the issues of the past and move forward. Than harbour ill founded grudges. When ultimately the banks are people. Where the bad guys have long since left.
