BBC i-player on mobile system

As a night-time truck driver, I get really bored with the limited post-midnight offerings of ClassicFM and BBC Radio 2/World Service

If I get a tablet computer, will it work in my cab? Will the speeds support BBC i-player? How long will the battery last?

Thanks

MMM

ps - How many GBs would I need?

I've used BBC Iplayer on two different mobiles, but you need to use Wlan rather than dial-up to access it for most providers.
  • I guess I'd kind of assumed that mobile internet would be a bit like home broadband - just switch on and go!

It is switch on and go - you just go and try to find somewhere that it will work.

Forget about iPlayer on 3G on a regular basis - you'll either find it's too slow to be watchable or it will chew through your bandwidth allowance like crazy.

Depends on what type of tablet you go for..
if it's an Android / Ipad then you won't get great playback via 3G

What you could do is look into getting a cheap Windows/Linux/Mac (is there such a thing as a cheap Mac? lol) Laptop and a Digital TV USB stick, then you'll get all the FreeView channels without the worrying of Bandwith charges.

  • :j I can't vouch for the quality of I Player when streaming in various situations. However I download loads of BBC programmes on to a computer (save for mobile device) and then transfer them to my Galaxy Tab via Windows Media Player. I can then watch them abroad for around 30 days. You cannot store these programmes on an IPad (or at least version 1) which is why I went for an Android device. This arrangement means you aren't dependent on 3G. Happy watching!
