Wow - so much to catch up on. Thank heavens Mothers Day is just once a year as a day at the races has been followed with 3 1/2 hours of getting up to date.
I don't want to wade through pros and cons of the spreadsheat or not too much and add loads more but here's my view:
- Tesco already have a date in mind when this will end. If they were serious about keeping it, the individual price check would be back as pledged in some incarnation when the cap was introduced and they would still be advertising (TV, newspaper, instore, on top of the tesco mailers in freebie newspapers). Not one sign in any of these recently and it isn't to do with the Tesco capping at £100 or £20, it's IMO because it will be going.
- Tesco couldn't pull this in the first month as ASDA would be all over it like a rash laughing at their foolishness and having to backtrack - the PR for T would be unbearable. Now we are coming up to a month or so since launch, it would be viable for Tesco to pull it perhaps replacing it with something else less lucrative than our current idea, perhaps with something equally loophole ridden, who knows, but they could get away with it without too much shame being poured on them!
- As well as Tesco watching the thread, no doubt so will ASDA. They will have seen a drop in sales this past month, albeit by perhaps 0.5% or so but nonetheless a drop, despite their best campaign offers not going down as well as expected (as lots who would've looked at them in ASDA have perversely bought them at a higher price in Tesco) so whilst they will want to continue the feud, they will also know that making the information easy and accessible, will make them miss out in the short term. They also regard each other as their closest competitor, so ASDA knowing they are so low priced in comparision might make them think 'we can nudge this up a bit' and the spreadsheet will help them, although the campaign calendar for deals is plotted months in advance, so for both T & A they will both struggle to switch this around easily.
- I agree that IMO picking only from the list on the spreadsheet would be an easy alert for T's to say not in the spirit of fair use along with other indicators like only spent £20-£25 and got a voucher back for max £20 each time - my suggestion, add a couple of other things, don't push it to the £20 maximum on every shop so that if people who are getting things for multiple households don't suddenly end £80-£100 less than they expected through not abiding by fair use so maybe just get some things that don't give you a full return. If T want to clamp down, the opportunity is undoubtedly only made easier with an accessible list where as the spreadsheet is varied, our shopping habits are varying. Notwithstanding this, IMO T still will have the same date in mind to pull this already plotted out.
So in summary, milk it whilst it lasts, don't take the P and try and think a bit outside the box using some variety techniques in costs, quantity and not sticking rigidly to the list alone so you have an excuse lined up if your shops are refused. It will not last forever and we just need to enjoy it like enjoying the Spring sunshine knowing it's only going to last a while!0 -
Sorry, I've been following the thread buying useful stuff etc, but I've come to a question I'm sure has been answered before, but I couldn't find it.
How does it work when you use a product-specific voucher (such as the £5-off finish one)?
Do you still get the standard DTD etc, with the added bonus that it cost you £5 less in the first place? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Yeo valley 150g is priced wrongly in the SS, it should read T 0.38 A 0.33
