Chances of getting a phone contract?
Hello
I've been looking at getting a HTC phone on a 24 month contract from Three. The problem is that i'm worried about the credit checks. I have no loans or problems with late payments in the past and i think this could be the problem as i dont even have a credit card.
I also move regularly with work (every 6 months) so rarely update the electoral register and so im not even sure im on it still.
I know all these faactors effect the chances of getting simple things like credit cards or in this case a phone contract. Im currently on a Sim only with o2.
So my first questions is this will getting a phone contract be tricky? secondly what are the chances of talking o2 into offering me the exact same deal as Three currently offers? £25 a month 1 gig 500 mins?
Thanks all

Current account with an approved overdraft limit maybe? Have you ever seen your credit file(s)?I have no loans or problems with late payments in the past and i think this could be the problem as i dont even have a credit card.
My 18y.o. son is not on the roll and has a contract with Orange.I also move regularly with work (every 6 months) so rarely update the electoral register and so im not even sure im on it still.
Just try. If you don't have any credit history you have to start it sooner or later. So my first questions is this will getting a phone contract be tricky?
Chances are slim IMO. Also I think it's not a good idea to start with a long contract. Think about 18 months. If rejected take a one-month rolling contract to get some credit history.secondly what are the chances of talking o2 into offering me the exact same deal as Three currently offers? £25 a month 1 gig 500 mins?0 -

Why not just 'pay as you go' ?0 -

Thanks ill give it a try then.
I have a current account with an approved overdraft which i haven't gone through.
I'm currently on a rolling one month contract "sim only" with o2 and pay as you go would work out far more expensive and that was teh reason i switched to sim only.
Ill go down Phone shop today and have a chat, do i need anything like 2 forms of ID etc?0 -
Have you considered going direct to 3 online, but linking through Topcashback? £107.06 cash back on The One Plan at the moment. Surely this beats going to a phone shop?0

The Cashback offer is tempting but i dont really want to spend that a month even though its only an extra £50

I have had contracts with a few mobile providers but none ever appeared on my credit file :S Plus I never had any credit history at that point, but it was a good few years ago now. And things I never expected to be on my credit file, like when I ordered some clothes from the Next catalogue and paid straight off in full (never realised I took out credit of any form).0

Think the only check they do is that you are actually the account holder and it is in funds..
They take £1, or so, off of your account when you're in the shop to check you are the account holder (using chip&pin) and theirs funds in it.
It's then credited back to your Three account.
That's what they did with me.Laters

It's very easy to get a contract if I'm honest - I don't know about Three but I know O2 can take a security deposit if your credit check isn't great which is refunded after 3 clear months of billing.
EDIT - if you have SIM Only with O2 at the moment then you already have a phone contract so if they approved you for that, Three won't bat an eyelid at approving you for one that has a handset with it.0 -
Hi, from what I hear it seems to be much easier to get a contract with 3 than the other networks, ( maybe they are desperate ) ,just make sure what their coverage is like in the everyday locations you visit.0
