Do you buy fruit and veg from supermarkets or markets?

I bought some fruit to juice from the local supermarket, just across the road, the tangerines are nearly impossible to peel the pineapple is small the apples produce hardly any juice the only fruit to bare any decent amount of juice for their size were the pears, the lot cost nearly £9.
from the farmers market I bought 10 apples, raspberries, blueberries, beetroot, pineapple (twice the size but only 29p dearer), and oranges and some leeks to make a chicken and leek pie the whole lot cost £8.45.Someone please tell me what money is0 -
How do you all get to markets, are they open late where you live? I barely ever get the chance to buy food from our local market because it's one day a week, 10am -5pm. I work full time!
When I do get a chance though I do find that the fruit is so much more juicy than the supermarket versions. And the vegetables are a lot bigger and look cleaner.0 -
I can't get to a market as there isn't one close that I like the look of - most of the food looks like it's on the turn, so I go to the supermarket and get it as I can get it in the amounts I need/use and it's cheaper that way** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **
**SPC 2012 #1498 -£152 and 1499 ***
I do it all because I'm scared.

I agree, its hard to get to markets and often a reason I just don't bother (I shop for food at 11pm most of the time!)
But some markets are open both Saturday and Sunday, see if you can find your local Farmers Market as these are often open at the weekend. For week days there are general street markets spread around most towns. Markets tend to be an every day thing: you don't work 7 days a week I hope?!0 -
When I had a local greengrocers I used to go there for loacl produce. i haven't got one now, so go to my loacl supermarket/ or online.0

I find my local indoor market is more expensive than the supermarkets, so I usually get them at Sainsburys or Morrisons. They last awhile and taste good! You are 48% tight

I am lucky that we have a good choice fo all outlets round here. I use a local farm which has a shed at the end of it's buildings and I drive past it four days a week to and from work - you self serve and it's an honesty policy. I tend to get Spuds, carrots, onions, leeks, broccoli from here. Their eggs are £1.20 for a dozen free range - true free range as you could about run the hens over if not carefull:D, I don't get eggs though as we have two of our own hens but if you have a farm nearby it is worth checking out as supermarkets are OTT on the price of eggs
Tesco is expensive and I find has a shorter lifespan, Asda quality is not so good much of the time but is cheaper - Morrisons is best for quality, freshness and price among the supermarkets but I have to make an effort to go there.
I prefer the Co-op and also have three within the village / work journey so is very handy although not the cheapest. The Market town I work near has a weekly market and a couple of good fruit shops so use these too.0 -
Ive been getting a weekly organic veggie box delivered, the stuff is very fresh and tasty, but this doesnt last us a full week and i cant afford 2 boxes,so i supplement it with vegetables from the supermarket, theres a farm nearby me with its own farm shop(and monthly market),but its expensive and veggies dont appear particularly fresh..bendy carrots etc.
Im thinking about investigating Glasgow fruit market(about a 40min drive from me),but i dont know if its open to the public or trade only.Slimming World..Wk1,..STS,..Wk2,..-2LB,..Wk3,..-3.5lb,..Wk4,..-2.5,..Wk5,..-1/2lb,Wk6,..STS,..Wk7,..-1lb.

i think it depends what you want. the market is best for stuff in season, and to be eaten sooner rather than later. i normally shop on a tuesday, so get some veg and fruit to last a few days. then i go to the market on fridays and get stuff for over the weekend! i find the market cheaper, so it is swings and roundabouts!0
