Swiftcover counts windscreen crack as full claim.

Dunno.
But they do point it out in their keyfacts as well as in the policy.
And it's been regularly mentioned on here too!
The fact that it is mentioned on this forum would certainly not be sufficient to alert a consumer to it.
Whether what it says in the Key Facts would count is debatable. However, assuming it was bought online, I think it would be difficult to persuade FOS but I have seen some pretty random decisions over the years.0 -
It defo isn't the industry 'norm' so yeh would be interesting to see what the FOS say!0

You're not kidding, they have some cases where they rule in favour of consumers when clearly shouldn't and against the consumer when they should.
A read through previous cases is an entertaining read0 -
Hi
I'm also with swiftcover (fully comp) and have 10 years NCD and need my front windscreen replaced - screen crack is too big to be repaired. Now i'm in a dilemma...either i claim through Swiftcover and pay the excess (around £70?) but then at insurance renewal in May my NCD stays at 10 years assuming i don't make any further claims. Or i pay the full whack for the windscreen and then have 11 years NCD at renewal time. What should i do? My current swiftcover policy cost £270 last May.

In 99% of cases discount stops at 5 years so I would say your not in any real danger to be honest.
If they kept offering NCD up to say 15-20 years they'd either have to lower how much each year gives you or give the policies away for free.
I wish Insurers would all just stick to the 1-5 scale, when it comes to claims they all seem to so why not just get rid of this 6, 7, 8, 9 etc years NCD when it normally means nothing. Some companies will give you an extra 1 or 2% but wow?0 -

The difference between 5 and 6 years is about 5% for me.
Not a fortune but still not something I'd turn down for the sake of it.0 -
Windsreens for none element ones are about £160, call autoglass and ask them and then way it upDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Insurers used to consider a windscreen replacement an entirely different thing to an actual accident. Accidents are about fault and risk. It's those that put premiums up and affect no claims.
It's a dodge to put your premium up. Go somewhere else."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0 -
Virtually all insurers treat windscreen replacement as a claim. They even treat windscreen repair (such as stone chips) as a claim.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
