  • Excellent thread! My son's prom is this year. The problem I will have is motivating him to decide what he wants to wear. He had a hire leaflet in his bag last week but just shrugged his shoulders when I asked him if we should be doing something about it. I am hoping that he just wants a bog standard suit as that will be the only way he will agree to buy one and I want him to have one 'just in case'.

My dau prom is this year, we have bought 2 dresses from ebay for less than £20 each both lovely. Her boyf being a pain and wanting to wear jeans though. A friends son will wear a white shirt black trousers and a bow tie - this would be a cheap option for boys I think and still look decent.

Thanks for that, we are just deciding whether to do that but have been looking at another website (Milanoo).
I'm just worried it won't fit when it comes but the dresses look lovely and the prices look good...

For those of you with 'alternative' loving daughters there is a lady in Afflecks Palace in Manchester who makes rather gorgeous gothic style prom dresses :)

i had my prom about 4 years ago and i got a full lenght dress with ful skirt from ebay and it was under £100 it was made to measure and from china although i cant remember wat the shop was called. my best friend got her dress from the same place and both dresses were really nice and fit perfectly so my advise would be too look on there. me and 10 friends all shared a limo and obv split the price we looked round for the best deal think it was £150 for it to take us and pick us up and also drive round for a while. all the local beauty shops and offers on for nails peddi and spray tan around prom time which was good. me and all my friend went to our local department store and had are makeup done by them for free at the stalls were they give you a makeover in the hope you buy the product and we did each others hair........not really much i could tell you...i know alot of the boys at my prom just bought nice looking suits from places like tkmaxx or ebay and some even rented them.... we had a big party after prom at a friends house... and all put like 5 each in and went to tesco a few days before and bought aload of drinks and food etc was a great experience.

Is well worth a look and a visit for prom dresses if you're not to far away, I got a lovely one from there last year. We just went and tried on everything.
Naff name but great frocks at reasonable prices!
  • I bought my son a dinner suit from Marks and Spencers last year. They had a range of suits at varying prices and you could pick the trousers and jackets separately so you could have a larger/smaller pair of trousers if needed. It is definitely worth looking in M and S to see what they have.

I also bought both my boys a very reasonably priced suit from there for sixth form. Both boys suits cost about £50 each. The big plus for me was it was washable so no dry cleaning bills to pay.
