You & your husband need to be united on whatever action you take.

She seems very directionless from your posts, does she not have one thing she is good at that she would want to do as a job?

That was why, in a post which has since disappeared, I asked if she might perhaps be afflicted by clinical depression or some other, related condition.
  • She has been treated for depression in the past, when boyfriends have dumped her, and she does the drama queen act - she even was admitted to hospital once with 'severe stomach pains' that resulted in a perfectly healthy appendix being removed. Taking away that car would actually not benefit me - we live in a rural village and the public transport is appalling and very very expensive. When her car has been out of action in the past, I have ended up as unpaid taxi.
The anonymous automated calls from Frederickson have stopped - there are real people on the line now, insisting on speaking to her - three calls from them today so far and one from another company.

I have a directionless son OP, i can sympathise wholeheartedly. My other son is steady and studious with a purpose in his life. Hope you get things sorted. I too live in a very rural village and transport is a nightmare, if we and my husband dont run son around then the rows are horrendous. he says he wont go in for his test as it will be more than £2000 in insurance to drive and he doesnt earn much,he just does a few hours in the local pub.

  • Hi OP,

I'm 22 and I've been stupid and got myself into huge debts... most of this started from when I was 18/19 and got credit cards and loans for basically nothing. You should let her know how you're feeling and how bad it's become and hopefully that will "guilt" her into doing something about this, as it's a horrible situation for you to be in.
Unfortunately my mum just had a go at me for the constant calls (even though she's in debt herself and doing nothing about it) so if you take the nicer approach hopefully she will realise it's time for something to change.

There's so many amazing people on here that are willing to help if you could convince her to check the boards out. Hope things turn out ok :)

Stop supporting her & tell her to find somewhere else to live. My OH's parents were too soft with him and supported all his nonsense and debt, he ended up in serious trouble on more than one occasion because he thinks the world should support him. He's nearly 60 now and has been in debt since a teenager. You are really doing her no favours.
