  • Please do not follow the tip for attaching old carpet gripper to the top of fences etc. It can cause a lot of damage to cats and other small animals and also children who may just be looking for a lost ball.
My Solicitor friend, who I was watching it with, said it would be really bad to do the carpet-gripper thing because if anyone/ thing got hurt the householder could be prosecuted.
  • I cannot wait for next weeks episode! I really enjoy this programme and reading other points of view on this thread.

I had not seen the programme before, so watched with interest. Enjoyed it but didnt think people were all scrimping that much, guess its aimed at doable things for everyone. Agree about Mrs M hat, not only is it a crime against fashion but they should promote the wearing of helmets when riding a bike.
    Thoughts to all. Mrs D.

I saw a better mascara tip recently where the girl held a business card behind her lashes to make sure she got every one of them with no mascara getting on her eyelids

We were shocked too. From the looks of their cupboards they could have eaten for next to nothing. Also surprised at the "Guess that'll be wasted" comment over the pasta bolognese...do you not eat lunch/have a freezer lady!?

We had a giggle that his previous job was financial advisor when they were struggling yet overspending on food by at least £500.

Mrs MandM was v. excited that they were in High Wycombe for the appliances bit :rotfl:
Agree on the Financial Advisor bit - if you can't trust him to look after his own money how can you trust him to look after yours?! One of the people who owned our house before us was an FA. For about 5 years we kept getting letters from his pension providers because he hadn't told them he'd moved; we know it was his provider as after 4 years we stopped forwarding them and returned them to sender and the company wrote to us as occupier saying legally they had to keep sending him letters! After 8 years we're still getting letters to him saying Insurance Information, and I don't think they are normal circulars..... hmmmm.

The home made playdough contains 2 cups of flour and a cup of salt. I wouldn't say it was "safe" to eat, especially not for a child!

I said exactly the same thing when I saw it!

I can't really see the point in making cushion covers. How often does anyone replace them anyway?

I thought everyone did that!! In the 60s my friends and I always used talc to make huge spiky lashes - I still do it now and I bet lots of other grannies my age do. But my technique is masses better than hers - you draw your lashes down onto the brush, with some pressure which separates them well, rather than push the brush up into the lashes which makes them go claggy. Much subtler you'll be relieved to hear.

That's the thing though, some of us have always done these different tips and take them for granted, to others they're brand new.

    As one granny to another.

I even remember using boot polish for mascara!!

Yup...I've been making models for over 25 years...(old fart that I am!)
    Here you go,it's a spray can tho;

    http://www.relishmodels.co.uk/index.php?target=products&mode=search&subcats=Y&type=extended&avail=Y&pshort=N&pfull=N&pname=Y&pkeywords=Y&cid=16&match=all&q=acrylic+varnish&x=0&y=0

If you contact them, ask for Graham & say you know Merv (me)

One trick we use on models is to coat things in Future Floor Polish (now rebranded as Johnsons Clear),it dries clear like a varnish &,if you have any brass that discolors, polish it & then coat in Future, that;ll stop it tarnishing.
Thanks chuck, so then will my glass designs not smudge?:D:D
